Car description

1981 Lancia Beta Zegato- Purchased new in Wichita Kansas at Don Schmid Motors by Mr Wilson on May 27th, 1982. Mr Wilson was always an Alpha guy, but this Lancia was so beautiful. After he sent his last child to college it was time to buy a sports car that could be just for him. A extra car just to drive when he wanted the Italiandriving experience. The Lancia was perfect. The next 13 years were spent in Kansas with the Lancia being driven on summer days only. Accumulatingabout 1100 miles a year in Kansas. Mr Wilson Moved to Melbourne Beach Florida in August 1993. The Alpha has completeda total of 15425 miles as noted by Carfax at the time of the move. Mr Wilson died in 2005. The Lancia was passed to his son Bruce. Brucemoved the Lancia to his home in Fort Worth Texas. Bruce had the car untilhis death in 2010 when the car passed to his sister Alexandra in Laguna Hills California with 21536 miles.Alexandra has had the car since 2010. She has added a total 500 miles in the last 9 years. About 55 miles a year driving to the Laguna Beach Shake Shack for Sundayoutings and the repair facility for maintenance. . Alexandra kept up on the maintenance religiously.
Condition report:
Body and Paint: The paint appears original. I have paint meter reading in the google album showing each panel. The paint thicknessranges from 3.0 to 5-1 which is normal original paint thickness. There are some minor flaws. two small dents in the drivers door. No paint breakage. I would call these pushes. These may paintless dent come out. There are acid stains on the drivers fender. Both flawsare noted in the Google Album. The paint shinesfantastically. We did do a full detail, and the results are impressive.
Chassis: The chassisshows as close to new as a car of this age can. We cleaned it up, and the original red paint and undercoatingdisplaynicely. The original paint and pencil marks are still on the varioussuspension items. The rear struts are worn. The car has a slight bounce when driving. We have just installed new Hankook tires about 50 miles ago. Brakes were done in 2016 (receipton file)
Motor and Transaxle: The motor starts and runs well. There is no fast idleso it is very cold blooded. Once warmed up it will drive well pulling hard in each gear. a full tune up might be suggested. This Lancia just passed the Californiaemission test last month. The clutch engagesas the top. I have gone through the multiple pages of receiptsand I do not see that it has been replaced, It does have only 22,000 miles. The transmissionis notchy, and shifts as it always has. The engine compartment displays excellent. The electric thermostaticfan works perfectly.
Interior: The interior of this car is excellent.Bruce was a big guy.The seat has a seam tear in it, but we had it properly repaired. The leather is soft, and the dash has no cracks. the power window switches are not operative. The have been recentlyrepaired, but apparently have failed again. The AC works, blowing cool, but more R12 Freonmight get it colder. The gaugesappear to work properly. The gas gaugereads incorrectly. The Targa top is easy to remove, and the rubber is absolutelyperfect. The rubber gaskets on the car are all beautiful. The back window does fold down, and will go back up. The rear window is original and cloudy. It has been cold so we have chosen to keep it in the closed position. The tonneau cover for the back window is in great shape. The carpet, door panels and plastic in the interior pieces are all excellent.
Trunk: The inside of the trunk displays close to new. The trunk floor is excellent. The original tool kit, and spare tire are included. The trunk lid underside still has the paint sticker from the factory displaying Rosso Corsa color code 851/F. All of the carpet and Styrofoamunderlayment look close to new.
Documentation: This car has an excellent documented history along with a clean Carfax thatversifythe low miles. Included documents:The original purchase agreement, owner's manual, owner identification cars. Also included are all of the maintenancerecords from whenit was new. Oil changes were done regularly. The service receiptsare in the google album for your review.
My impression of this car is that it would be an amazing preservation candidatefor Italiancars shows. Its so well preserved, documented, and maintained.
