The 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is that perfect classic 4x4 that mixes convenience with serious vintage appeal. But as you dig a little deeper into this one, you're not only going to see investments in shining paint and the loaded A/C interior, but also a modern fuel-injected heart and other upgrades that keep this quite a capable classic SUV.
These final years for the Wagoneer were also their best. The style had a chiseled look born out of a rugged utility vehicle. But it had evolved into greater elegance, making it like America's Range Rover. Some of that elegance is also seen in the paint. The Burgundy Red Metallic has a stylish look, and since it's a more recent application, there's quite a nice gloss. A proper Grand Wagoneer wouldn't be complete without detailed wood veneers running down the sides and on the rear. These look particular good on this example, and so the deep tones coordinate with the paint nicely. Also, don't forget about the brightwork. The large bumpers, wide grille, full trim package (with hood ornament), and luggage rack are all part of this premium flair. And while Jeeps were rugged, the Grand Wagoneer kept an eye on the style details. This whole idea of both stylishness and ruggedness come together nicely on the 14-spoke, 6-lug wheels.
The attractive Merlot-like color and wood trim continue inside. The two rows of seating are plush, complete, and even offer comfy cloth inserts for where you sit. None of this looks like it has pulled family duty, right down to the plush carpeting. In fact, while this has seating for up to six people total, you'll be perfectly happy cruising solo thanks to the bucket seat up front with folding armrest. These front seats even power adjust to the ideal position - so you really do get all the amenities that you look for in a modern SUV! Other nice luxuries include cold-blowing R134a air conditioning, power windows, power locks, tilt steering column, rear defogger, and cool/classic factory Jeep AM/FM digital tuner w/cassette. You even have modern upgrades like keyless entry and remote start. And the generous cargo room and Class 3 trailer hitch mean you can take all the fun along with you.
The interior and exterior show that the investments and care in this Jeep have been about keeping it looking vintage, but that all changes when you open the hood. This one benefits from decades of progress with a 5.3-liter fuel-injected vortec LS style V8 borrowed from a younger Silverado. In fact, between 2015 and 2018 this was given the right servicing, including a new water pump, fuel pump, alternator, A/C compressor, rebuilt cylinder heads, and rear main seal. So not only was this upgraded V8 installed to look like it belonged here from day one, but it also has been given the investment to feel like it, too. The NP22 4x4 transfer case and new driveshaft U-joints were also part of the work on this Jeep, so it's a strong runner with a well-done drivetrain. GM's 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission was also added, because it has a stout construction, easy overdrive comfort, and it as made to pair with the motor. The suspension is solid with new components and mounts as early as this year. Even the details are nice for driving on this upgraded package, like an aluminum radiator w/electric fan and Bilstein shocks all around. Plus, the power steering and power brakes w/discs up front make any journey easy.
The sale comes complete with maintenance records and restoration photos. This is the Wagoneer with big investments to make sure this classic Jeep is ready for modern driving. Don't miss one of the coolest and versatile classics around. Call today!!!
