Car description

For sale is this very original and rare 1982 Jeep CJ-7 Limited for $38,500 obo. One of only 2500 built! Featuring the factory 258 (4.2) six cylinder engine with a two barrel carburetor, 5 speed manual transmission with overdrive, power steering and power brakes. The CJ-7 Limited was an upgraded package that added many unusual features to the standard CJ-7 of that time and only 2500 were built. Some features included painted fender flares versus black fender flares, a chrome front bumper and chrome bumperettes, a color matched hard top instead of the usual black or white, a headliner in the hard top, special wheels with stainless trim rings and chrome center caps, upgraded thick pile carpeting, leather passenger assist handle, special exterior striping with "Limited" name plates as well as a black windshield frame. Additionally, it was possible to add genuine leather bucket seats for an additional $399.00. This Jeep has the leather seat option, as well as a larger 20 gallon fuel tank upgrade.
The original owner had the dealer installed "American Air" air conditioning installed at the time of purchase and had the CJ "Ziebart" rustproofed as well. This CJ was built in October of 1981 and sold to the first purchaser on March 26, 1982 by by Fishel's Jeeps Inc. in Red Lion, Pa. The original owner had the vehicle re-Ziebarted by the local Ziebart dealer each year for the first 5 years through 1987. He kept the Jeep until the 1999 when it was traded back in to the selling dealer for a new Grand Cherokee. The owner of the dealership then kept the Jeep in a temperature controlled garage at his residence from that time until he decided to sell it in October, 2016. Every year, the dealer principal would take the CJ back to his dealership where he would have it PA inspected and several upgrades performed. Some of the upgrades included the conversion of the R12 AC system to 134A, a brake job changing the brake master cylinder, all four wheel cylinders and converting the brake fluid to Synthetic DOT 5 and a replaced wheel bearing. He also replaced the carburetor with a new original factory carburetor as well as the muffler and tailpipe.
I purchased the Jeep from the dealer principal in October 2016 at a mileage of 56680 and since the Jeep was taken in on trade, I am the second owner of this CJ. Since that time, I had set out to professionally restore this original CJ7 to a near new condition as possible; while, at the same time, keeping it as stock as possible. First, the engine was tuned with new plugs, cap and rotor, coil and wires, A new Bosch Tachometer and digital temperature gauge were installed. A new stainless battery box replaced the original steel one and the factory fiberglass valve cover was upgraded to an aluminum valve cover. The radiator and hoses, the AC compressor and dryer were replaced and a stainless steel overflow was added to the cooling system. New stock springs, shocks and a new catalytic convertor were installed. New headlights and stainless headlight trim rings were installed, along with new stock marker lights. The chrome bumperettes were upgraded to stainless and 5 new BFG KO2 tires replaced the original Goodyear Arriva's. A stainless hood prop rod and hood support replaced the original steel ones. The vehicle had a four wheel alignment and it passed MD inspection easily.
With the mechanicals done, the Limited was then taken back to Ziebart where they re-Ziebarted the truck. From there it went to Mudget Auto Body Shop where the entire vehicle was repainted the original factory colors, including the factory hardtop. During the process, they found three small rust spots on it, 2 under the windshield hinges and one on the passenger side cowl. ALL RUST was cut out and NEW STEEL was welded in its place. In addition, a new windshield, windshield frame and stainless windshield, door and tail gate hinges replaced the original painted steel hinges. A period correct 'Limited' Decal Package was installed, finishing the restoration. The body shop invoice was $11,211.64. The CJ had been about as original as they come, but now it is in near new condition and due to the many upgrades, better than it was in when it was new.
The exterior is the Limited Color Package, Copper Brown Metallic with a Nutmeg Hardtop and Leather Interior. There had never been any accident repairs and the floors are solid with no rust through. No paint work was required on the pristine interior- the original interior patina is near perfect. There is virtually no wear to the carpet or seats, with only some minor creases and cracking on the factory leather seating areas. The original leather steering wheel was replaced with a new wooden one with period correct Jeep logo. The original documented mileage is now 57214 miles.
The Jeep starts easily, runs smoothly, and shifts properly. The four wheel drive, brakes and AC all work properly. The original Jeep Owners Kit as well as the original factory window sticker is included with the purchase. The Ziebart documentation from 1982-1987 and 2017 is included. The Mudget invoice is also included, along with maintenance history from the selling dealer. There is a clear MD title for the Jeep.
The Limited also passed a standard MD inspection for regular vehicle use, not just an antique classification as the EPA systems are working as designed. This Jeep is 37 years old and it can be driven home to anywhere in this great country. The Limited is listed for $38,500 obo which is several thousand dollars less than similar exceptional CJ's listed on Ebay recently. It is being sold as-is and the Buyer is responsible for delivery. The Limited is located in Westminster, MD. I welcome any serious buyer to make an appointment to come and inspect the Jeep for yourself.
