From 1984-1996 Jeep built its first boxy body and boxed frame chassis called the XJ or Cherokee. This thing was an instant success both now and then. It was extremely rigid and sturdy with approximately 3200 welds yet wonderfully lightweight. These models were marketed as upscale, top of the line versions with pretty much every available option at the time. These Jeeps are very capable off-road vehicles and feel at home on any surface. The upgraded 4.0 Liter in 1987... was a very welcomed upgrade. And although, not the best for fuel economy, it makes up for it in power and torque.
