With 2 (2-4 yrs old) daughters I've come to the conclusion (with my wife's help) that I have too many "toys" and not enough time to rebuild. restore. maintain and drive them all. otherwise. this Jeep would stay in my barn all winter and in the woods all summer! The Good Stuff:My apologies. I did not have the interior of this Jeep cleaned nor did I have the engine steam cleaned. The service tags inside the glove box appear to read: date 3/8/78 - 8698 miles and date 2/24/80 - 13887 miles (see photos)This big yellow CJ5 was traded into one of my client's car lots up north. the previous adult owner kept it garaged at his vacation cabin near Gunnison. used only in summer for cruising the back woods. This rust free CJ5 appears to be a 58K mile Jeep. is very tight. a lot of old school original stuff is intact. the seats. carpet kit. dash VIN tag. service tags. all stock under the hood except for headers. I get the impression it was found with low miles and modified fairly recently as nothing indicates any hard use. The 304 V8 engine always starts right up "with one pump" even on a 10 degree morning. runs clean and strong. no smoke. The 4 spd transmission (T18?) is tight. granny low is a rock crawlers dream. feels like it has some sort of locking differentials. The brakes work great. as does the power steering. lights. wipes etc. shows all the signs of having been very well maintained. Has 4 new 35/12. 5/15 Goodyear Wrangler mud terrain tires on custom American Racing alloy wheels. a suspension lift. a small body lift. roll bar. bikini top. cooler rack. gas can. matching spare tire/wheel. power steering box brace. K@N air cleaner. Warn hubs. headers. dual exhaust. the Bestop soft top is in very good shape and I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of stuff. The yellow paint is excellent (very high quality repaint on outside) as is the body. ultra straight and clean. I will state again. there is no rust on this Jeep. the aluminum diamond plate is just for looks and protection. not covering anything and I'll happily provide under photos to prove it. This Jeep was built for crawling around the Colorado high country. with the lift. big wide tires and lockers it is not safe on the asphalt above 40mph and in my opinion should be trailered or towed. The Not So Good Stuff: The front fenders have a couple small "stress fractures" on the edges. a common CJ issue (see photos)The upholstery's shot. I'm amazed it still has original seats. personally I'd keep them and reupholster in black (see photos)The engine is greasy and dirty but does not appear to leave any real puddles or anything. The front bumper is a little bent at the edges (see photos) a new one is $75The stereo is a dated old school install. meaning they used wood. lol. I do not see any speakers (see photo)The clutch ingages very well but feels short. I'll climb under and see if there is some adjustment left as time allows. The throw out bearing whines at idle. most when cold. goes away when you depress the clutch and/or accelerate. This Jeep has been driven very little in the last year. runs strong but could probably use a minor tune up. I live at 8000ft altitude it's very difficult to get anything carbureted to run perfect up here in this super thin air. Please call me with questions or offers.
