Car description

RARE Limited 4X4 1981 Jeep Wagoneer SJ-Body Automatic: New Interior, Restored Exterior; NEW Rebuilt AMC Engine 258 Cu.In. V6 GAS OHV Naturally Aspirated. Clear CA Registration; and owner Pink slip lists this vehicle category as SW: ''Station Wagon'' first sold 1981. The Limited model was made 1978-1983. In 1984, the "Limited" was renamed the "Grand Wagoneer", which means Limited was not produced after 1983, even though the SJ-body remained through the Chrysler years.
New transmission that requires timing adjustment, steering, fuel system, and new electrical. Drives with power. Before restoration, it had 200,000 original miles, and now has approx. 100 miles on the new engine. New tires and brakes. Luggage rack excellent with adjustable bars. New Exterior paint similar to original color, with replaced faux wood-grain vinyl side panels, that show areas of weathering, and have contrasting bumper frames.
Gorgeous new interior, seats in caramel color leather, including the dash and steering wheel. The back seats are a single unit, but have individually designed upholstery without an armrest. Dash dials in very good condition, mileage pictured from spring, and a new radio. All seats have tan velour-like upholstery detail like the original, but more luxurious with contrasting cord trim. There are seat belts in front and back. The interior side panels of all 4 doors are original, and show wear commensurate with age. Windows are original in clear glass, passenger roll-up handles that need operation repair and some small parts attention.
Sleek new headliner, including visors, outstanding. Plush new factory quality carpet in matching tan color, including wagon bed and rear hatch. New cargo cover pulls out and hooks on either side, then retracts. This vehicle is from So Cal; no weather damage in undercarriage; owned by family members for 35 yrs. It was built in Toledo, Ohio, has a steel body, and gets about 13 to 17 miles per gallon city. Registration due Jan '19.
Owner-Restorer Dad [Bob 1929-2018] passed away this year before he could finish this restoration completely. He was a Korean War Veteran, loving husband, father, and an upright car salesman with 60+ years as an auto broker and dealership owner, as well as classic car collector/restorer of dozens of different makes/models from 1930s to 1980s. I was one of his salespersons since the '70s and have always helped sell his classics. We surely miss him!
Questions welcomed. The description is according to Dad's details and photographs. I'm a long time eBayer, honest, and strive to be accurate with the information given me. I was born in the dark, but it wasn't last night. If you are a looky-loo or a critic, and not really interested in bidding, please reserve negative opinions and comments for another auction.

JEEP FACTS: In 1981, AMC expanded the Wagoneer line to three models. The Custom Wagoneer was the basic model, yet it included a four-speed transmission, free-wheeling hubs, power steering and power front disc brakes, as well as passenger area carpeting. A new Brougham model added an upgraded interior trim that included woodgrain for the instrument cluster and horn cover, floor mats, power tailgate window, as well as the "convenience" and "light" packages. The Brougham's exterior included a thin side body scuff moulding with a narrow woodgrain insert, roof rack, as well as bright door and quarter window frames, and a lower tailgate moulding. The Wagoneer Limited was the top-of-the-line with standard Quadra-Trac, automatic transmission, air conditioning, tinted glass, power windows and door locks, cruise control, AM/FM stereo radio, extra quiet insulation, power six-way driver and passenger bucket seats with center armrest, upgraded door panels, leather-wrapped steering wheel, extra thick carpeting, and retractable cargo cover. Various versions of the Wagoneer were manufactured in the US and other nations by Kaiser Motors (1962-1971), American Motors (1971-1987), lastly by Chrysler (1987-1993).
The SJ-body Wagoneer line saw consolidation in 1984 with the end of the "Brougham" model, while the "Limited" was renamed the "Grand Wagoneer" to free up the "Wagoner Limited" nameplate for compact XJ Wagoneer. In mid-1984, AMC introduced a less expensive version called the Wagoneer "Custom", without the simulated woodgrain exterior. The Grand Wagoneer remained "the gold standard of the SUV market" and from 1985, it would continue in one version using the old SJ-body until the end of the Grand Wagoneer production under Chrysler, 1993.
