Hello,up for sale is a 1989 Jeep Wrangler....I believe its rare a jeep comes up as good a condition as this one is...
I was amazed in first seeing this jeep...That is has little to no rust whatsoever.Any rust present is just light surface rust...IT STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL BRAKE LINES....that do not need to be replaced.
The frame is immaculate.....It only has one dent on the right rear corner which is pretty small...All original sheet metal....I have basically decided to clean out the garage, get out of Jeeping and bought a more suitable vehicle for the highway....As my parents live in another state and due to their age,I need more of a highway vehicle in case I have to see my parents due to their health...
As I have gotten older,I am just tired of working on jeeps and rolling around the concrete!! lol
I have put an untold amount of work into this thing.
It put an advanced adapters transmission housing kit in it and it has a 2001 wrangler nv 3500 stick shift in it....It has a new clutch.
The seats do not have rips in them.
It has a new slip yoke eliminator kit on the transfer case and new cv drive shafts front and rear from Olivers drive shaft in Nc.
I took the steering column apart to tighten the 4 bolts which are often loose in these models,to keep the steering wheel from moving.
It has a newer stereo...a cd player with auxiliary jack on it.
These are what has been replaced on the jeep in the past two years or so...
Starter
alternator
accessory belt
front speakers
rear view mirror reglued
bottom of the seats were reupholstered when I bought it.They are actually pretty comfortable. As far as I know this years seats are actually not adjustable.
rear axle rebuilt...
front universal joints
front axle rebuilt...New passenger side axle seal which is a monster to replace...No leaks!
The front axle engage cable
The carb was taken off and a gm throttle body fuel injection kit was installed .It was the performence fuel injection kit for the 4.2 which is for sale here on ebay.Parts for this kit are over the counter gm parts.
Aftermarket air intake.
hei distributor.
battery as of about a month ago. leaf springs...new shocks... More expensive extended stainless braided steel lines...I don't mess with brake lines from China.
spare tire
jack set
I made the spark plug wires myself to adapt to the new distributor.
fuel tank sender.
I adapted a third brake light from a jk :) It didn't come with one from the factory.
soft top.
harmonic balancer
water pump
fan clutch
radiator
ac compressor
windshield...Replaced because the old one had the little pinhole grit marks all over from driving over the years
windshield wipers
entire exhaust system besides header.
The computer, computer harness and all sensors are about 2 months old....Will come with an extra computer which I bought as a spare.
I did the head gasket about 2 months ago....While in their I redid the exhaust manifold gaskets too....
Working egr system and catalytic converter....
working pcv system.
changed every fluid...axles,coolants,oil,even the clutch fluid is all new given that I put a different transmission in it and new hydraulic slave cyclinder.Same as brake fluid as much of the brake system is newer.
All engine rubber was replaced....heater core hoses, radiator hoses etc...Heat and ac work!!!
I believe the miles to be accurate and this the original engine.Very quiet engine.I also replaced the valve seals when I did the head.Good engine pressure.
rear main seal was replaced
All and I mean all of the electrical system works properly except for the intermittent wiper module, which you can get off of ebay…Anyone who knows old jeeps knows I probably should recieve a medal for getting most everything to work properly on this thing..lol
The wipers work on the fast speed and the intermittent wipers work...but not the regular speed. The highest intermittent speed is almost like the regular speed which doesn't work,so I never bothered replacing it.You can get one off of ebay for about 40 dollars if you wanted to.
So all turn signals work, lights, hazard lights, high beams, fog lights, the radio....THE CLOCK STILL WORKS!! The temp sender, volt meter, oil pressure sender, gas guage, light dimmer, guage lights, floor light, the DOOR BUZZER STILL WORKS AND THE SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT...:)
I replaced the ignition with a new one.It has no door locks...It must have actually come from the factory like this,as its the original paint...It does have a lock for the trunk area but I do not have that key.It is unlocked and opens and closes fine. Will come with two keys.
The emergency brake light and 4wd light, when engaged all work...The third brake light works...The horn works...
I took this on an 1100 mile road trip about 2 months ago and it worked just great. The ac works....
I have spent an ungodly amount of time on this thing!! lmao!! If your wife doesn't want you to buy this because she is fearful of the time you would spend on it,tell her its the best deal because the works already been done...HONEY,I LUV YA!!
If your husband doesn't want you to buy this, tell him "tough potatoes!!" It might need new spark plugs in the next 5000 miles....Fourth gear wines so ever slightly,so little you may not even hear it.I was just going to put thicker oil in the transmission.I do not believe it needs attention at this time.Gears shift well.
The newer rear axle seals actually slightly seep some fluid but I believe do not need to be replaced at this time.Slight seep of transfer fluid I believe from the front of the transfer case to the transmission.Front and rear seal on transmission were replaced when I put the transmission in.I do not actually get any fluid on the floor though...I want you to know exactly what you are getting.
At about 65 mph it vibrates slightly. To tell you the truth I am not sure because with the leaf springs on this thing,it rides as smooth as the road does...Anyone who knows these old jeeps knows that 65 mph with the longer leaf spring extensions on the front of this thing....that's acutally pretty good...
I drove this thing 1100 miles on the highways recently and quite honeslty,it will beat the hell out of you with this older leaf spring suspension on it.I like challenges.I built this thing from scratch and think its quite an accomplishment to have built such a reliable jeep.
On the 1100 mile road trip, this thing only used 1/4 of a quart of oil!!! That's good!
The fuel pump is an inline electric fuel pump on the inside of the transfer skid plate. It made it up and down hills on route 95.On a hill it would hold 60 -65 in 4th gear no problem and then no problems keeping the speed of about 65 on flat land in fifth gear...
After I put the fuel injection on it,I chirped tires lol This thing has a lot of spunk!! I may have missed some things I replaced as I have done so much work on this.
To be quite honest, this is a terrible highway vehicle....If your buying this for a kid who does not have experience with lifted vehicles...I honestly do not recommend it if he is going to ride extended times on the highway.Maybe I am being a bad salesman but this jeep is appropriate, given its construction I believe to go no faster than about 65 miles an hour on the highway in this kind of lifted vehicle....The leaf springs are quite a rough ride....
So I gotta let this thing go....It also has an adapted brake booster from the 1997-2006 jeep wranglers. The older brake boosters weren't very good, especially with bigger tires. The tires are 31x10.5....It also has a new rear track bar,as the former owners had removed it...So it has front and rear track bars for stability....
It also has newer front vented and slotted brake rotors and pads. This thing will stop on a dime,no joke.!! It also has newer rear brake cylinders and drums....
I wanted to make this thing a reliable daily driver.....The horn is newer. All work has been done in the past two years...In getting older,Im just tired of working on jeeps. It was kind of a hobby.Time to let jeeps go....
No international buyers...shipping and pick up is the responsibility of the buyer. If at the time of pick up you do not think this awesome jeep is worth the price, you don't have to buy it.No worries.Leave me a message if you have any questions and I will get back to you by phone if you wish.Trying to avoid spam!! Good luck and bid on!! :)
It is priced accordingly for the amount of work done....I believe model years as this one in this kind of shape are hard to find, especially with the throttle body injection. This thing is a piece of art!! I couldn't believe how rust free this thing was when I first saw it....Original brake lines!! :) Holy cow batman!!It will come with the original rear seat and floor mounts which are in good condition.
