1971 CJ5, Universal, Dauntless V6, dual, gas tanks
Very original
Superior condition
Runs great
I'm retired, so I only drive it a little. I am believed to be the third owner. I bought this Jeep off another senior citizen. When I bought it, I was advised that it was never off roaded. It's been meticulously cared for and maintained.
This jeep is unmolested and almost factory original. It is difficult to believe it is 46 years old. It has been very well maintained and had a few minor upgrades: it's been repainted one time in the original color (many years ago) and the Renegade decals were added (there is some fading of the paint). There is no rot (not even in the floor tool box). The alternator was upgraded to an internally regulated Delco. The engine compartment has been re-painted with POR paint, A factory (dual) gas tank Modification was added under the driver's seat with factory hardware. A class 3 trailer hitch receiver was added in the rear. A grill / brush guard was added in addition. A front mounted hitch 2â€receiver was installed for a slide in receiver front mounted winch. It has a Bestop Super Top and a storage chest is bolted into the bed. An FM stereo was added (the original AM radio comes with it). The seats have been reupholstered, horn button moved to steering column (a new horn button repair kit comes with the jeep). The photos speak for themselves. Recent Shocks, steering damper and Energy Suspension urethane body mounts (the original were hard and were cracking).
*ODOMETER: When I bought the Jeep, it came with the original odometer / speedometer, it showed 67,549 miles. I was told that the low mileage was due to it having been used most of its life just to get around on a ranch. The speedometer worked fine, but it was a bit sun faded. The second owner came upon a NIB OEM speedometer for $200, so he bought it while he had the chance and replaced the old one (the original one also comes with the Jeep to show and document the actual miles). The new one now shows about 13,023, so I assume the Jeep has a total of about 80,572 miles. The engine has been overhauled; it doesn't burn oil, and runs great.
The brakes have been completely overhauled: new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, drums, and shoes. It has a new clutch and rear main seal in 2016, and a rebuilt T14 transmission this year.
Thousands of dollars in extras will go with the Jeep, like:
NIB Pertonics ignition system to include the flame thrower coil (I never installed because she runs so good with ignition points)
NIB spare starter
NIB spare alternator
NIB aluminum radiator
spare Rochester 2G carburetor
5 gallon steel Gerry can with mount
copy of a factory service manual
Copy of an original owners manual
and many, many more spare parts that were hoarded over the years.
It also comes with tons of documentation including service manuals and parts books.
This is the body style that is the most sought after. It is the last model year before the straight six cylinder engine came out and to accommodate the longer engine on all the newer jeeps the front end was lengthened four inches.
The Dauntless 225 V-6 is a Jeep engine (Jeep bought all the tooling from GM BUICK division) Jeep produced these high output engines from 1966 to 1971 before selling all the tooling back to GM. The Jeep Dauntless V-6 is basically the non turbocharged Grand National performance engine. This is the factory version of a jeep muscle car. Take my word for it, there is absolutely no need for a V8 conversion on this jeep.
No tire kickers, joy riders or photo collectors. Buyers are encouraged to inspect, have their mechanics inspect, or have an appraisal service check out this jeep for you. If you are really serious about buying my jeep, call me (954)461-9940), and we can talk Jeeps. The jeep and its keys will not be released until all funds have cleared my bank.
