1968 Jeep Wagoneer Custom Special
I have for you a special Jeep that comes out of Arizona. I purchased it last year and transported here to Ithaca, New York. Garaged all winter and has only been driven this summer. I am only selling because I have decided to purchase a smaller classic car and need the funds to do so. Jeep produced this custom style in incredibly small numbers over the course of a few years. Some say as low as 3000 were made. This model has the original, incredible Dauntless Buick 350. Very well maintained by older gentleman, gold miner for the last 20 years in Arizona. Before that a couple owned it for 7 years and before that I do not know. It has the tilt-steering wheel, air conditioning that does not currently blow cold, center console automatic shifter and incredible interior. I have been playing close attention to these customs at the national level especially Meecum Auctions. Two have sold recently in better condition than mine, and fetched $30,000 and most recently last month, $60,000!!! Not saying mine is close to those, but these are incredibly hard to find and mine is in mostly, overall, very good condition. I am not a mechanic, but I will try to detail to the best of the ability the condition of the Jeep.

- Dauntless 350 runs great. Cold starts easily with a couple of pedal pumps. Needs a few minutes to warm up to optimum idle. Odometer reads 71,ooo, but not sure if it's been turned over.
- Ithaca has notoriously bad city roads and Jeep does bounce a bit over the bumps, but drives super smooth on open roads. Loves 55-60 mph! Some minor play in steering.
- Transmission into gear from park isn't perfect. Needs to idle low after warming up. Does hit it harder at higher idle. While driving, there is a noticeable, small bump into 2nd gear. Transmission area to be factory perfect may need a rebuild.
- Body paint I believe is not original, but is presents itself incredibly well. I have traced back the ownership 28 years so it is at least that old. Front driver's side door may have been replaced because it has a different shade of white and interior color on door was repainted and paint color is slightly different from rest of the interior.
- Rust Free? It is a 49 year old car, but it looks amazing underneath. No rust rot of any kind at all. Does not appear to have any bondo or any body work done to it, but again, I can't be 100% sure.
- Front driver's side quarter panel has a dent from door swinging open too hard. See Picts.
- Hood has some slight dents in it.
- Body has some very slight dings and minor dent by back door. See Picts.
- It had two gas tanks, hence the two gas caps.
- Spare tire was mounted on side of car so there are 4 holes covered up now and some wear to that side. I do have the Wagoneer emblem and the spare tire. I will also include the spare tire mount with sale. See Picts.
- Interior is very nice, but is probably not original. Customs had diamond shape emblems on back of front seats, mine does not. Driver's seat back is also slightly coming apart at the seams. Easier fix I think.
- Carpet is very nice, but may not be original as the pile is different from the doors, which may have been identical from factory.
- Missing clock.
- Has intermittent windshield washers-after market. Works well.
- Has cruise control-after market-does not work.
- 4 wheel drives engages, but I have not taken off road.
- Interior lights on dash work. Console lighting does not.
- Air conditioner blows lots of air, but not cold. Clutch plate?
- Speedometer is 10 MPH off.
- New Rear shocks.
- Replaced rear axle from 1967 Wagoneer. Dana 44. Original one had a bad casing.
- New rear drums and shoes replaced last week and are scraping just a bit fitting into the drum.
- Has two holes covered with tin can tops in far corner of rear. I guess for 2nd gas tank in back. I don't know.
- Has some small holes on sides of center console to mount something? There are two plastic cup holders installed now which are not factory.
- Original red rubber rear mat.
- Electric rear window rolls down great, but needs a hand to bring back up.
- Heat works well.
- Left turn signal stays on sometimes.
- Headliner has some slight tears and repairs.
- Crazy metal wings on back to blow off water off back window?
- All glass excellent.
- All windows work great.
- Seats fold down great.
- Tires are very good.
- Wheels are very nice.
- I have the original Arizona license plate.
- Interior headliner light does not work.
- AM radio comes on and lights, but no music, just static.
- Radio under dash does not work.
- Cracks in steering wheel.
- Steering wheel has some play up and down. Does not affect driving. Tilting steering work well.
- Draw Tite Hitch for your classic trailer!
