Car description

Looking for a vintage pickup with serious off-road cred? A strong V8 but not just another Ford or Chevy? Then this 1972 Jeep J-Series 2000 Custom Cab pickup should serve you nicely. A nicely refinished truck that looks good but not so perfect that it's afraid to go off-road, which is, after all, a Jeep's natural habitat. With the Olive Green paint on this truck, it just looks like it's waiting to go have an adventure. It's not olive drab like an army Jeep, but it sure looks right and offers a great shine that seems right for a vehicle of this vintage. The squared-off lines of the Jeep recalls the Wagoneer and the early Cherokee, and that's perfectly OK with us. You can also see echoes of this truck in today's Jeeps, particularly the squared-off fenders and handsome chrome grille. You don't see many of these today because they tended to rust in the most demonic ways possible, but this one was spared that fate thanks to a life lived down south where snow was a non-issue. It was repainted not too long ago and still looks great, and if you want to take it up a notch, a professional cut and buff would really make it shine. But then again, you might be afraid to use it as designed at that point. It's built for the rough stuff, especially with the big bumper and brush guard up front, complete with a built-in winch (which comes with a remote). There's also a heavy-duty rear bumper with hitch and a very nicely finished bed that's charming in its simplicity. The interior is pure 1970s funky and it really works well. The tan seat cover with cloth insert is exactly right for this fun truck and surprisingly, the Jeep feels a bit more upscale than its competition. Plush green carpets, a handsome dash with simple, easy-to-read gauges, and a steering wheel with perhaps the last horn ring in production all make it feel old-fashioned and we like that. But don't confuse that with obsolete, because you also get functional under-dash A/C, an AM/FM/cassette stereo radio, and a padded dash top that adds an upscale vibe. It's all in very good condition and unlike the exterior, it suggests that roughing it isn't necessarily part of the equation.Power comes from a torquey 360 cubic inch V8, making this Jeep a lot of fun on or off the pavement. It's pretty original under the hood, but you can see that it has always been well maintained and with a 2-barrel carburetor and simple ignition, it's easy to keep it running at its best. It's packed in there with the A/C compressor, power steering pump, and big air cleaner, but you can see factory blue engine enamel on the valve covers and a positively gigantic radiator up front, probably big enough for a Kenworth. The 3-speed automatic transmission is a GM TH400, so it's virtually indestructible and the 4-wheel-drive system uses a 2-speed transfer case for proper off-road use. Long-tube headers feed a custom-built exhaust system that has a nice V8 burble and solid axles at both ends mean this truck is capable of going just about anywhere. Familiar white wheels are a 4x4 tradition and carry big 31x10.50-15 off-road radials. This is a cool old truck with fantastic off-roading abilities and a unique look. You Jeep guys know it's cool, and for the rest, well, this is a great way to join a group that prizes going anywhere, anytime. Call now!
