Found this beauty on the side of the road complete with sagebrush and cobwebs galore.
As we have more desert than barns here in Arizona, it’s our version of a barn find.
The story I was told was that it was purchased new by an executive at the copper mines here in Arizona. When the gentleman passed, his widow let it sit outside, uncovered, for years.
A neighbor eventually bought it from her and let it sit another 18 months before I found it.
I put in a quart of oil, a fresh tank of premium fuel, and a can of Seafoam and drove it home 2 hours in the rain.
It ran great.
All I’ve done since is sprayed her with a garden hose and vacuumed her out, that’s all.
The photos above are after the hose.
Some things that will need attention, if you choose, are:
Tailgate/ glass is not working
Fuel gauge is not working
Clock is not working
Drivers door window is slightly off track (but still rolls up and down)
All 4 doors lock except the driver door (which will from the inside but not from the outside)
I haven’t looked into any of these…yet.
Everything else works and the air conditioning blows cold.
Armrests for the driver and rear left passenger are not in place but are all there.
All 4 tires match and are Hercules MRX PLUS. Though they’re just about full tread, they’re also a bunch of years old (I was glad it was only a two-hour trip).
It’s a terrific candidate for a partial/full restore or a great desert kissed daily driver.
I can’t decide which.
That’s why it’s offered here.
I thought I’d test the waters to see if there’s someone out there that likes it more than I do…and I like it a lot.
The title is in my name.
It is registered in the State of Arizona (through 2019) in my name.
It has collector vehicle insurance in my name ($120 annually for an 8K value).
The Arizona title is free and clear of any liens/encumbrances and shows 38,000 “A” box, or ACTUAL miles.
If you know these, and you probably do if you’re reading this, you know that 1979 is the second most popular year in terms of production (1978 is first), and that ’79 was the major restyling year which included the new square headlights, a bold new grille, and new one piece aluminum bumpers.
The two videos below tell the story better than I ever could.
They were taken right after I got her and show her in the exact condition I found her.
The first is a detailed exterior walk-a-round and engine bay video (check out the cobwebs!)
The second is an interior and engine start-up video (including a 25 year old gallon (half full and included with purchase) of “Rugged Gold” coolant in the rear cargo area).
WARNING: If Wagoneers aren’t your thing, these videos will likely bore you to tears. If they are, it’s pretty exciting stuff.
WARNING #2: There might very well be a couple/few spiders currently calling it home (but none got to me).
Enjoy ya’ll.

Wow, ain’t she popular. If only my Mrs felt the same affection for “THE BOSS”.
Whoever is there at the end will own her. High bidder will have themselves a 38,000 original mile beauty.
