Car description |
---|
This is a very clean all-original 1993 Jaguar XJS convertible equipped with the very rare factory installed 5 speed manual transmission. If you are reading this you probably know how truly rare these cars are. For one year only Jaguar dealers in North America were allowed to take special orders from customers for cars with equipped with manual transmissions. Only 66 Jaguar dealer special-order 5 speed XJS convertibles were manufactured for the North American market, and this is one of them. How many of them remain in existence is a good question.
Most of the cars, including this example, were fitted with the factory Sport Package, which included 16" alloy wheels, sport suspension, a great sounding free-flow dual exhaust system and a rear spoiler.
This particular classic British roadster is Signal red with a black leather interior. It is equipped with the very reliable 4.0L straight six engine. It has low miles for the year and is in excellent overall condition. The paintwork is excellent but not perfect, with a few small scratches here and there and one small door ding on the passenger side, but as you can see from the photos, the overall finish is very presentable. The bodywork is also excellent and very straight, and there is no rust or accident damage anywhere on the car. The interior is also in excellent condition and the convertible top which was recently replaced is as-new.
Mechanicals are excellent. The engine starts easily and idles perfectly and sounds excellent. Oil pressure is excellent throughout the normal temperature operating range and the coolant operating temperature itself is normal even on the hottest summer days. The clutch is strong and the smooth-shifting Getrag 5 speed manual transmission shifts nicely up or down and is very quiet.
All of the fluids have been recently changed: The engine has fresh Castrol GTX 20W-50 and a new Bosch premium oil filter. The transmission has fresh Redline MTL. The cooling system has been flushed, completely drainedand refilled with Prestone 50/50 pre-mixed antifreeze. The brakes are excellent with recent new calipers, rotors, hoses and low-dust ceramic pads. The braking system has also been flushed and bled with new Castrol DOT 4 brake fluid.
The electrical system is also excellent. The power top and all four power windows rise and lower properly. The original R12 A/C system blows cold and the cruise control and factory radio work as they should. The only electrical issue that the next owner may want to sort out is the operation of the power seats which are not currently working. I suspect that the original power seat ECU's (electronic control units) failed at some point (they are no longer available from Jaguar, but good units might be available online) and the previous owner installed an earlier non-power Jaguar seat track in the driver's side which works perfectly. The passenger power seat works properly when 12V are connected directly to the under-seat harness, and it is currently positioned in the middle of the adjustment range with the tilt at a normal comfortable angle. The passenger-side manual seat track, and a drivers-side power seat track are included with the car.
The car is also equipped with working front and rear radar detectors and a non-factory free-flow air filter. The original factory air cleaner is included. The original tools and the original excellent-condition convertible top boot with its storage bag are in the trunk. Three sets of original keys with operating remotes are also included. The car is registered and inspected in my home state of Vermont, and although not required in Vermont for vehicles 15 years or older, I did apply for and just recently received a clear Vermont certificate of title for this classic Jaguar.
In short, this is a very nice example of an extremely rare luxury sports car. In my many years as a Jaguar enthusiast I have never seen another one. In my opinion, you would be hard pressed to find a better one at almost any price.
