Car description |
---|
Here is a very rare, Jaguar XK140SE Fixed Head Coupe. This car is one of only five 1957 XK140 fixed head coupes built. (The Iconic Jaguar XK by Phillip Porter).
The car runs and drives. It has had a recent oil and filter change with Castrol GTX 20w50 and the engine runs smooth and strong, with no smoke at all. The clutch is smooth and predictable with no slip or chatter, and the gearbox shifts well through all of the gears. The rack and pinion steering (new in 1957) steers very nice. The body is very solid and the chassis/undercarriage, is very solid and rust free. The dual exhaust is new.
The car comes with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, that shows all of the numbers the car was born with, as well as the owners, Operating, Maintenance and Service Handbook.
The interior, although not original spec, looks pretty good and I believe it was redone sometime in the 70's, when these were still just "neat old cars". The glass is all good and the glass chrome trim is all there. It is missing the chrome strip that runs down the middle of the louvered aluminum bonnet. The doors and boot lid are also aluminum. There are a few minor dings, but nothing a good PDR man couldn't handle easily. The car has had a recent re-spray. I'm not sure if the paint used is the original "Pearl Gray" or not. It is a 20 footer. This car is very fun to drive, and can be enjoyed as is, or would be a fine candidate for a show restoration. This car is currently having the brakes and driveline gone through, as well as addressing fiddly fixes, such as the horn, speedo and taillights.
A video clip of me driving the car can be seen here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b481noXnTqA

Clarification, looking at production data in Philip Porter's book, The Iconic Jaguar XK, and, figures from xkdata.com, this is the first '57 XK 140 FIXED HEAD COUPE. Jaguar only produced five Fixed Head Coupes for 1957, along with eight Drop Head Coupes, and 156 Roadsters.
