A gorgeous Series 1 E-Type in fabulous colors, this Jaguar presents extremely well throughout and is sure to please even the most discerning eye. Expertly finished body and paint, with chrome knockoff wire wheels, beautifully fitted leather interior, wool carpeting, and canvas soft top. The paintwork is extremely high quality, and the level of craftsmanship evident in the bodywork is most impressive. The panels are laser-straight and the doors, trunk and bonnet operate exactly as they should, (the bonnet's smooth operation being a difficult and unusual feat for an E-Type). All brightwork is excellent and shines brilliantly, as well, the proper wire wheels are stunning and are dressed in fresh wide-whites. All glass and lamps/lenses are also in absolutely superb condition. The engine compartment has been impeccably detailed and is stunning. It is in show condition throughout and very correct in terms of finishes and appearance. This Jag roadster is ready for spirited use, a casual Sunday drive, or display in the finest museum. All E-Types featured independent coil spring rear suspension with torsion bar front ends, and four-wheel disc brakes, in-board at the rear, all were power-assisted. Jaguar was one of the first vehicle manufacturers to equip cars with disc brakes as standard from the XK150 in 1958. The Series 1 can be recognized by glass-covered headlights (up to 1967), small "mouth" opening at the front, signal lights and tail-lights above bumpers and exhaust tips under the number plate in the rear. Legend has it that when it went on display for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961, none other than Enzo Ferrari remarked that the E-type (known as the "XKE" in the U.S.) was the most beautiful car he'd ever seen. Mr. Ferrari knew a pretty car when he saw one and he might have been one of the first to express the sentiment, but an incalculable number of others have said virtually the same thing and they're still saying it nearly 60 years later. Designed by a noted aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer, the E-type was meant to cheat the wind, but its glass covered headlights, long hood, short rear deck, and compound curves also coincidentally looked great. With a 0-60 time of around seven seconds and a 150 mph top speed, the Series I E-type was near the top of the early 1960s food chain. A 2+2 coupe was added to the coupe and convertible body styles in 1966. The 2+2 was the first E-type to be available with an automatic transmission.
