Roadster Salon is the largest restorer of classic Italian convertibles in the country. While our specialty is hand crafted re-creations and contemporary engineering for Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Maserati--we also represent a selection of lovely original British and German classics from Jensen, MG, Triumph, Jaguar and Porsche. The Jaguar XJS---particularly the six-cylinder version is an excellent car that bridges the gap between vintage spiders from the 70's and today's more reliable luxury convertibles. This example was a recent addition to our collection, with solid service documentation in impeccable condition. Driven less than 4000 miles per year, the attention to detail and maintenance is evident in every aspect of the cars appearance and performance. While there are a fair number of these cars available in the market for low offers, that is a reflection of poor service histories, neglect and looming mechanical problems. This particular car is turn-key, and was previously serviced by a franchised Jaguar dealer. It has been certified through Roadster Salon's service department, and is offered with a limited warranty. Grade "A" inside and out. Cosmetic Impressions First said, this is a 20+ year old car, and one needs to align their expectations as such. However, in that context its cosmetic condition is nothing short of remarkable. The paint is very shiny and clean, with no significant scratches or dings to betray its like new appearance. Even upon close inspection, we doubt there is any aspect of the exterior's finish that a customer might quibble with. Really nice overall. The interior is one of the Jaguar's strongest statements. It's said that a car is driven from the inside out--so its interior finish and condition is always paramount. This car does not disappoint. The leather has no rips or tears, and looks/feels fresh reconditioned. The wood trim looks excellent, and the carpets equally so. In fact, the overall impression of the interior is one that appears to be a very well cared for much newer car. No excessive wear on any surface. Non-smoker owned, with no smells or odors. Really clean and pleasant A+. Mechanical and Driving Impressions As stated earlier, our confidence in this Jaguar is reflected by us offering the car with a limited warranty. We believe this beautiful convertible will give its next owner many years of fun with minimal upkeep. Engine and transmission all seemed to be within spec. No squeaks or rattles. Power convertible top works beautifully. Sporty acceleration with nimble handling for its size. Very comfortable ride over rough surfaces. During our 200 mile test drive, the XJS showed no signs of previous abuse or bad behavior. Peppy, solid and sure footed, the Jaguar inspired confidence as the miles accumulated. Our test drive included both city and highway miles. The Jaguar always felt composed and well planted, regardless of the driving conditions. This is a relaxed gentleman's sports car, with a lot of life left to offer. Grade A. Market Report There is a wide range of pricing in the current market for the Jaguar XJS. The six cylinder version is the most popular, with far less maintenance and reliability concerns than the V12. Interestingly, the difference is horsepower and performance was very minimal. The in-line six is regarded as Jaguar's most durable engine and is our favorite. Current NADA classic car values range from $19,500-$26,500 for well maintained versions in average-top condition. We are offering ours at the low end of that trading range. This is a strong value for the Jaguar fan.
