1970 JAGUAR E-TYPE XKE SERIES 2, 4.2 LITER, 2+2 COUPE. ORIGINAL COLORS OF SABLE BROWN WITH TAN TRIM. AUTOMATIC GEARBOX, CHROME WIRE WHEELS, AIR CONDITIONING. BELIEVED CALIFORNIA CAR FROM NEW. NEEDS RESTORATION.
Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this Series 2 E-type 2+2. This car was just purchased from it's long term California owner who was in process of restoring this car during his spare time. It appears the car left the factory in the period color scheme of Sable Brown with tan trim. The previous owner at some point had the car painted in it's current dark blue (Indigo?), but it was only a very modest job. The body on the car overall looks very solid, being a California car. There is some rust noted under the boot floor which is visible from underneath. The floors are very good. The bonnet is loosely attached and would require some shimming for a good fit. Some interior trim was removed, most likely to start the retrimming process. Most of the exterior chrome was also removed for the repaint. Please look over all of the pictures carefully as well as the pictures of the loose items, as they are all included with the car, but the car is missing some items. We only have what is pictured and shown with the car.
The engine currently in the car is an earlier 4.2 liter E-type engine than what is listed on the data plate. We haven't attempted to see if it turns, but I'm assuming it would require a rebuild. The front subframe set still show evidence of the original Sable factory paint. They appear very straight save for a small dent on the RH top rail, about where the carburetors would be located.Overall, a decent car to restore with very minimal in bodywork/repairs. These Series 2 4.2 liter 2+2's are very popular as the most affordable entry level 6-cylinder E-type and will prove to be good value going forward.
