1971 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES 3 V-12 2+2 COUPE. ORIGINAL PRIMROSE YELLOW. 4-SPEED MANUAL. AIR CONDITIONING. STANDARD WHEELS. MATCHING NUMBERS ENGINE. A BELIEVED ORIGINAL 37,930 MILE CAR. EXCELLENT CAR FOR EASY COSMETIC RESTORATION.
Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this very good V-12 E-type Coupe. This E-type was recently purchased from an older gentleman who was in the process of performing a cosmetic restoration on the car. According to the seller, the car ran fine a few years ago and he was just planning to improve the car with a fresh paint job and new interior trim. The engine compartment on the car is extremely original with nice original factory paint, and is testament to the possible low mileage. The body on this car was being prepared for paint and is very good to excellent. It appears that no rust repair was ever performed on the car with beautiful original wheelarchs and excellent original rockers. The body feels very straight and "hollow" with very good panel alignment. A little effort would be required at this point to "put it in paint". The bonnet is currently sitting loosely on the car. The car appears to be 100% completely rustfree, save for a small spot just under the front of the driver's floor, around the jacking point. The rest of the body/chassis on the car appears really solid.
The exterior chrome trim and most glass has been carefully removed for a proper repaint and it all appears to be all complete, original, and in excellent shape. Few, if any parts would need replating. The seller was even careful enough to save the old existing rubber kit for future reference. The windshield is broken and needs replacement. The interior trim was "redone" some time in the past and the car appears to be reprayed in red as it's second paint job over the original primrose yellow. The dashboard, top pad, gauges, switches, steering wheel, center consoles, etc. all appear excellent and would need just a simple clean/detail.
The car's engine turns over evenly and smoothly on the key with the fuel pump clicking, but no attempt or investigiation has been made to start it up yet. The brake pedal can be pumped up to pressure but the clutch pedal is stuck and we didn't want to force it. The highly original engine compartment would respond well to a simple clean/detail. The matching Dunlop tire set (5) on the car appears very nice and usable. The car is fitted with some nice original touches such as original seat belts and correct 4-exit "fan" type exhaust tailpipe. We're confident it will be running and driving with just a little bit of minimal work...Overall, this V-12 is a very well-preserved, desirable, 4-speed manual car for a straightforward simple cosmetic restoration. One would be much farther ahead on this car (and with a nicer end product) versus a cheaper alternative with an inferior body. This car offers very good value as an entry level E-type and is a smart buy going forward.
