The offering for the Buy-It-Now $ 50,000 is a rare, matching numbers, never hit 1967 Jaguar E-type Open Two Seater that is ready to restore - in fact, restoration is already started. The price does NOT include the restoration, but it can be included as will be described later. It was delivered as an Opalescent Silver Gray car with black interior and top, delivered to Mississippi in the south, and bought from an owner in Arkansas. It has no evidence of rust, and only one small section on the firewall that needs a small repair. It had previously been stripped to bare metal and re-sprayed in primer, and has been dry-stored ever since. According to the previous owner, the engine and transmission were rebuilt by Jon's Jags. All the numbers match the Heritage Certificate and the ID plate, including engine, head, transmission, frame radiator support and rear body tag.
Restoration has been started. The bonnet was disassembled and a new Martin Robey "belly pan" was obtained ( $ 1700). The seats were professionally done by Muncie Imports, but in a beige color, and could be easily re-done in the original black. Several new parts have been obtained.
We are a small restoration shop that has decades of experience. The name is Amazing Grace Classic Cars, We have restored half a dozen Series 1 E-types in the last 5 years, many winning awards at JCNA Judging events. Our most recent car was done in Opalescent Maroon. It was delivered to the customer in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and immediately driven 750 miles trouble-free on a road rally, and then immediately entered into a JCNA Concours, where it won a Directors Award for 1965 to 1967 cars. It can be seen on the Bonhams Scottsdale 2017 website.
We would prefer to sell this car and perform the restoration. Most of the pictures show other restoration examples. For $ 50,000, you could own the car and title. We would sign a fixed-price restoration contract for $ 120,000, payable at $ 12,000 per month for 10 months, with the last month being held upon acceptance of the car.It would include a time schedule of milestones, and a picture reporting of progress. Inspections could be performed at any time.We did this on the maroon car and it worked out well for both parties. In the restoration section, we will briefly describe the steps and some of the choices on originality versus driving comfort.
If someone wanted to buy the car but not the restoration, that could be arranged, but would be simplified if a 20 foot shipping container or a U-Haul truck were used, as there are many pieces involved. The car without engine is a rolling chassis / body, and the engine / transmission is on a rolling cart. The onlyknown non-catalog missing part is the aluminum intake manifold which was "borrowed" for another car, but these are readily available on ebay or through dealers.
DETAILS OF RESTORATION IF PERFORMED BY US:
BODY:All metal stripped to bare metal and small dents removed by hammer and dolly. Initial spray with epoxy primer ( DP40). Engine frame disassembled, sandblasted and checked for strength, being replaced if needed. Body mounted on rotisserie for underside cleaning and coating with chip-free U-POL Raptor in black or body color. Firewall and engine frame painted in primer, base and clear, and re-assembled. Bonnet assembledafter dent removal and primer. Bonnet, doors and boot lid test-fit for gaps and shimmed as needed, then removed for painting. I will skip the remaining steps normal to a show quality paint job - our many XKE's have never received a single deduction for paint quality in any JCNA judging.
DRIVETRAIN: Even though the engine and transmission were purportedly rebuilt by Jon's Jags, they would be dis-assembled, checked for clearances, and re-assembled with new gaskets and seals. The rear axle cage would be dis-assembled, sandblasted and powder-coated. The differential would be rebuilt with new seals and bearings, and gears if worn, and re-assembled to factory specs. All U-joints would be replaced, as well as clutch, pressure plate and slave cylinder.
