This is a 1962 International Harvester Scout 80 with some very cool original equipment and features and it is looking for a new home. My Scout came with the 152 4 cylinder engine and 3 speed transmission. It is 4 wheel drive with hi and lo gear. It spent most of its life in Colorado used as a farm or business implement, and then came to Illinois where it has been kept in dry storage. It is believed to have 11,000 original miles based on the history and condition but there is no paperwork to prove or support it. Recently storage has been lost so it is up for sale and would love to find an owner to give it the attention it deserves.
This early Scout 80 retains most of its original paint inside and out and has a great natural patina. I believe the body should be left alone to preserve the history, except for some small amounts of metal work. The floors are showing their age and could use some patching but are still solid. The undercarriage is dry and had a rare undercoating applied from the dealer so it has been preserved much better than a typical Scout of this era especially for the Midwest!
Some of the cool original rare accessories are as follows:
PTO Ramsey WinchIH yellow lens fog lightsIH front brush guardRear heavy duty bumperRear tailgate heavy duty spare tire carrier
Just a few short years ago the Scout was given quite a bit of service work. List as follows, probably forgetting some things too:
Brand new Goodyear Wrangler tires spare included (5)New clutch slave cylinderNew brake master cylinderBrake drums and lines servicedNew gas tank and fuel linesNew fuel pumpNew exhaust from the manifold backSpark plugs, plug wires, cap and rotorCarburetor was rebuiltWiring was checked over for lights and accessoriesHard top removed, repainted, new seals and new glass!Bench seat upholstery doneNew Rancho suspension shocks
After the service work the Scout was used semi-regularly for errands. It was reliable to go to the hardware store and groceries. The motor has always run super strong and the transmission shifting pattern is tight and accurate.
Unfortunately with it sitting the past two years the Scout needs a little attention. I would go through the carburetor again, the choke and idle is not quite right, which could also be remedied by simply driving it. I would also check the slave cylinder and bleed it. The doors on these early scouts have a tendency to not close properly, the drivers side needs attention on the door checks. Being an early Scout 80 it has sliding windows in the doors, one needs to be replaced it’s broken. Any glass shop should be able to tackle that.
All in all this is a great old Scout that is very original and unmolested. Any questions please feel free to email through EBay. I can provide more pictures and videos. If you search you tube there are two videos up, search “Walt scout 80â€Thanks and good luck!
