This example has some rare options for 1949 such as 4-speed transmission and power brakes! This KB-3 one-ton truck came from arid southwest New Mexico and a life-long mechanic who owned this truck for the past 30 years mechanically restored it several years ago. Finished in International Number 10 Dark Green exterior with cream inside, the truck’s paint and trim are in good order with some patina evident in places. The previous owner recently cleaned and painted the frame along with new kingpins. The truck’s cargo bed looks very good, with its corrugated metal floor. The truck sports a black bumper up front and a black corrugated one in the back that wraps around to the rear wheel openings. There are a side-mounted spare tire, a tilt-out windshield and sideview mirrors that someone went to a lot of effort to specially mount on their own shelves. The previous owner stated that he treated the truck with the following new parts – radiator, six-volt battery, window glass, regulators, channels and fuel tank. It has a 130-inch wheelbase, 2800 chassis weight and 3600 carrying capacity. This truck wear Goodyear tires, size 7.50-16 at all four corners. The side-mounted spare, located on the driver’s side between the cab and rear wheel, is a Goodyear, also size 7.50-16. The tires are all mounted on factory steelies painted green to match the body. The tires are in good, order while the wheels are in good condition. Beneath the hood is a rebuilt 214 CID Green Diamond straight six-cylinder engine with a L-head and the previous owner reported that the truck has less than 500 miles on it since the rebuild. This was the final model year for this engine to appear in the company’s light trucks. The engine is buttoned to a optional four-speed manual, transmission. Inside, the truck has been treated to new black upholstery on the bench seat, so the seat is in great shape while the black floormats are in satisfactory order. The original three-spoke steering wheel looks great while the painted steel inner door liners and cream metal instrument panel with gauges are all in good original order, complete with patina but the fuel gauge and wipers are inoperable. A floor-mounted shift lever completes the interior.Nineteen forty-nine was the final model year for the KB series truck. Competition to this KB truck included Chevrolet’s Advance Design trucks, Ford’s Bonus Built trucks and Dodge’s trucks with “Pilot House†cabs and Willys-Jeep pickup trucks. If you’re Binder hunting, this model is worth more than a quick look.
