1970 International Harvester Scout 800A Aristocrat 4WD
Owned by a collector of classic SUVs. This Scout was a project she worked on with her father. But it's now getting to the point that she has too many trucks and a couple need to go. The Scout was originally born as an Aristocrat trim with 4WD and a 4 cylinder engine. During the restoration the whole vehicle was gone through and includes new paint, interior, etc. Rather than rebuilding the original engine they chose to install a 350 crate engine and 4 speed manual transmission. The body and frame are solid with no rust or corrosion.
The truck runs and drives well but some details need to be addressed. Some of the exterior chrome trim is pitted and needs to be stripped and rechromed including the roof rack and exterior mirrors. The driver’s door window seal and window regulator need to be adjusted and door brake strap replaced. Front Drum brakes should be cleaned and adjusted. Rear tailgate hinges are missing some hardware and need to be addressed. There is a concern of suspension and front steering system clearance. I believe this is due to the fact that the original 4 cylinder engine and transmission were lighter in weight than the current V8 and four speed. A slight suspension lift would address this issue. Starter is weak and should be replaced as well as the battery. Original shift knobs are missing.
The engine runs well and transmission shifts smoothly. She goes down the road well and is beautiful to look at. I think the Aristocrat two-tone paint scheme sets it off well. With a little bit of work and a larger wheel and tire package this could be a great weekend cruiser.
