This 1970 International Harvester Travelall 1100D was purchased new from GOE Auto Sales in Pleasanton, California, reportedly remained in the same family until 2010. We are now the third owners of this beautiful rig.
Limited quantities (much fewer than Scouts) of the Travelall were produced by IH, and even fewer stand in this condition and quality today. This is a rare rig.
The truck is finished in Alpine White over a Deluxe blue cloth interior, and power is from a 304ci V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case. A cosmetic refreshment was commissioned by the grandson of the original owner, and aftermarket wheels, an electronic ignition setup, and an aluminum radiator have been added. Service since 2012 has included a braking system overhaul as well as installation of a new clutch, rear main seal, tires, transfer case seals, and more. An oil change and tire rotation were performed in preparation for the sale. This Travelall is offered with spare parts, service records, original purchase documents, manuals, and a clean Colorado title.
This four-door wagon was repainted in its original Alpine White (#9120) with blue pinstriping and graphic accents circa 2009. The look is clean, sharp, and still stunning.
The Travelall featured a 119″ wheelbase, and this example rides on aftermarket 15″ wheels wearing Thunderer Ranger A/T tires from 2018 and mounted over new Warn manually-locking hubs up front. The truck is equipped with power-assisted braking and steering, and a 16-gallon auxiliary fuel tank was included among factory options.
The cabin was originally specified with the Deluxe trim package, and was reupholstered while with the grandson of the original owner. Blue cloth covers the front and rear bench seats, which feature lap belts for six occupants. Space is abundant and comfortable.
An aftermarket CD player and door speakers have also been added. The three-spoke steering wheel fronts horizontal-sweep gauges including a five-digit odometer showing approximately 67k miles, believed to be accurate. The four-speed transmission and two-speed transfer case are operated with floor shifters on the transmission tunnel. Factory AC system is complete and fully recharged with R134a for environmental compliance.
The rear seat backrest folds forward for increased storage, and the cargo area is lined with matching blue carpet. Huge storage capacity.
The International Harvester 304ci "Comanche" V8 is fed by a two-barrel carburetor and was rated at 180 horsepower when new. New motor mounts have been installed, together with a new water pump, timing case gasket, rear main seal, intake manifold gaskets, drive belts, and ignition components as well as a recent rebuild of the carburetor.
Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case. The flywheel has been resurfaced and the transmission resealed after replacing the clutch, throw-out bearing, and other items. New transfer case seals were fitted and the differentials have been recently serviced. The brakes were overhauled with a new master cylinder and lines, front shoes, and wheel cylinders. The truck is ready to roll with reliability for many years to come.
Purchase documents list original options and equipment, and show a 1969 suggested retail price of $6k. Work performed between 2012-present is described on handwritten sheets included in the sale, as well as multiple service receipts and invoices.
This Travelall is the best of both worlds - very well maintained and also capable of being a daily driver. Fly in and drive home, it's ready to take you on your next adventure. A great investment.
