Clear Arizona title in my name.
Runs, drives, steers, brakes and 4x4s. An excellent candidate for restoration as it DOES NOT HAVE ANY OF THE RUST THAT USUALLY PLAGUES SCOUTS.
WHEN I SAY NO RUST I MEAN IT NEVER HAS HAD ANY AS OPPOSED TO BEING REPAIRED:
NO RUST IN EITHER DOORS.NO RUST ANYWHERE IN THE WINDSHIELD FRAME.NO RUST IN THE DOOR SURROUNDS.NO RUST IN EITHER ROCKERS.NO RUST IN EITHER FRONT FENDERS NOR INNER FENDERS.NO RUST IN THE COWL.NO RUST IN THE FIRE WALL OR TOE BOARDS.NO RUST IN THE FLOOR BRACES.NO RUST IN EITHER QUARTER PANELS.NO RUST IN THE REAR INNER FENDERS.NO RUST IN TAILGATE OR HINGES OR TAIL LIGHT HOUSING AREA.NO RUST IN ANY OF THE BODY CAB MOUNTS.NO RUST IN ANY OF THE FRAME BODY MOUNTS.NO RUST ANYWHERE ON THE FRAME.
A previous owner replaced the driver’s side floor board but the floor braces are stock, in tact and are in good condition. I do not know why it was replaced as there is no indication of rust. The passenger side floor is covered with what appears to be a replacement floor: it is thin sheet metal. There does not appear to be any rust issues viewed from the underside. All the floor braces are stock and are in good condition. The transmission tunnel is original and in good condition. The toe boards are in good condition. The rockers are solid and in good condition. Were I to keep this Scout I would remove both side floor boards as the previous owner did not do a perfect swap. The driver’s side will remove easily as it is only tack welded in a few locations. New floor boards are available and they are relatively easy to replace.
The rear floors are original with no repairs. There was a die cut sheet of steel checker plate on the rear floor that I removed. The rear floor has surface rust and appears to be thin in a few areas but is not rotted though. Rear floor has various dents.
Paint is original and relatively rare in Ceylon green (same color as in the last pic of the restored Scout). Body is pretty straight. It had some minor dents and dings that were repaired (previous owner) but nothing major (see the primer areas).
All glass is good (May be chips in front windshield) and windows roll up and down and fit good within the door opening. Vent windows work but the latches need work. Have both door cards—they are metal. Doors open and close and are solid as is the pillars they attach to and their hinges. There is no rust looking inside the doors. Dash has been spray painted black as was the floors—I didn’t do it. The upper fire wall is still original and in good condition.
Engine runs strong and starts up even after sitting. Runs cool with no overheating issues (gauges don’t work—I used a laser thermometer). Fuel tank has been removed, cleaned and fitted with electric fuel pump. New battery. Dual exhaust without catalytic converters. Transmission shifts like it should and transfer case works fine. Manual brakes and it takes all the strength in your left leg to lock up the brakes. Front and rear Dana 44s.
Actual mileage unknown.
Dash pad is included but vinyl is cracked badly.
Engine compartment is VERY clean and original. The original paint on the firewall is in good to very good condition. The hood is solid and original. It opens and shuts like it should.
There is an electrical issue somewhere that causes the battery to drain after sitting a couple of days. I’m done trying to track it down: the factory all-green wiring is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen in 50 years of life.
Factory tilt steering column (steering wheel has seen better days). Power steering. Drives straight. Suspension is stock except for the rear spring hangers (rear springs are probably worn).
The top has been painted an ugly black with a rattle can (think house paint quality). It doesn’t appear to have rust issues and the glass is good. Rear hatch window is missing the “T” handle.
I’m selling as I found a unicorn Scout in a beautiful metallic champagne color. Ceylon green is my second favorite Scout color.
As I said it runs and drives but I would have hesitation driving it across country. I have driven it around town (30 mile round trips with no issue). I don’t take it on the freeway because my leg gets wore out doing abrupt stops. Will do 70 mph no problems.
