Car description

Very nice, stock and original (other than exterior paint), running and driving 1973 International-Harvester Scout II with very little rust and which is highly optioned with the top-of-the-line Deluxe exterior package (and a lot more).
The running gear is in mechanically strong condition with the big 345cid V8 (the largest available and with dual exhaust and 'Cherry Bomb' style mufflers). The exhaust flange gaskets need replacing (I have them) and it needs a carburetor rebuild (hesitates on acceleration). It is hooked up to the optional 727 TorqueFliteautomatic transmission (needs pan gasket replaced but shifts well). Power is then routed through the Dana 20 transfer case to a Dana 44 axle in the rear (with optional Trac-Lok) and a Dana 30 axle in front (with optional disc brakes and locking hubs). The 4x4 system works properly. It has power steering and power brakes (a little touchy) as well. I recently took it on a 30 mile drive and it performed well even with these minor issues. Tires are old and cracked (but hold air) so I'd just consider them rollers (at least they are mounted on cool chrome factory Scout Rallye wheels).
The interior is in decent original condition. I removed the worn carpeting in front and rubber flooring in the rear so you can better see the sheet metal. The floorboards toward the firewall and a very small portion of the storage area are the only places with rust-through (by Scout standards in particular, this is very modest). Everything else is just surface rust. Replacement panels are readily available in the aftermarket if you choose to go that route or just use flat sheet metal. Depending on your climate you may not want to even bother with it. All exposed areas have been treated with a rust neutralizer so it won't spread. Dash is in good condition with only minor cutting where an aftermarket stereo once was. Temperature, Alternator, and Oil Pressure gauges work as do the heater fan, windshield wipers, headlights and lighter. Door panels were cut long ago for aftermarket 6x9 speakers (replacements are readily available). Upholstery is all original.
The exterior sheet metal is a real strength with only minor bumps and bruises over the vintage custom paint job (originally done to a high standard but now showing its age). In fact, other than some light dents on the right front and left rear corners, all exterior panels are in excellent shape. Rust is limited to the outer rocker panel below the drivers door (passenger side and both inner rocker panels are solid). Doors open and close and windows roll up and down properly. All glass is good other than the windshield (flat glass so it is easily replaced).
Scouts (especially II's) are rapidly appreciating in value as early Bronco's and Land Cruiser's become priced out of reach for many. This one has great bones. It runs and drives and is fairly rattle-free (especially by Scout II standards). And it is stock and original with only light rust which just adds to its desirability. My hope is that it finds a good home where it will be preserved for future generations.
