Car description

1980 International Scout II Travler Midas Edition Diesel
It justdoesn't get any cooler than this in vintage SUV's. This a special Midas Edition Vehicle and the last year the Scout was made. This is the Traveler version that is longer than aregular Scout II and has the Fiberglass Top rather than steel. This Scout has been rescued and restored for using as adaily driver or weekendcamping trip. I don't restore trailer queens. Idon't see thepoint if youwant to use it. This Scout was used on a farm in KY and I purchased it from theoriginal owner who's Son lived in Johnson City, TN. This Scout sat for many years because the sheet metal in the floors and rockers were gone. The old man just went out andstarted it every so often to keep it running. He wanted to fix the floors but never got the time to do so. From thefloors up it was inexcellent shape being stored in the dry.
Engine - A very good SD33 Nissan Diesel Engine with low mileage. All the maintenance has been donewith fresh fluids and hoses where it was needed. New battery. After about 3 cycles with the glow plugs shestarts upwith little smokeeven sitting for a bit. I added a Pyrometer so you can keep an eye on exhaust temperature andnot fry thisexcellent motor. No matter how much you push it, it does stay running cool. A new 2.5" Exhaust has been installedfrom down tube to the back without a muffler. Youcan't help but like the sound of a diesel.
DriveTrain and Suspension- It all is factory and works well, Transfer case is easy to shift, axles have all been rebuilt and painted. The Traveler has a new Rough Country 2.5"Lift Kit with newshocks andbushings. The front has the heavy duty CPT ShackleConversion. The suspension is all brand new.
Brakes - New brakes front toback including the brake lines both hard and soft. New rotor, pads and shoes. Upgraded to Hydro Boostwithexcellent stopping power since the factory setup neverreally worked. Every diesel Scout needs a hydro boost.
Tires - New 33" BFG AT2 KO onoriginalpolycast wheels. They ride like a dream. New lug nuts. Free rotate and balance from Discount Tire. There is anoriginal spare wheel with cover in the rear.
Sheet Metal and Paint - There is zero filler inthis body and most of it has theoriginal paint on the body. A ton of work has been done repairing all the sheet metal. As youcan see from the photos the floors, outer and and inner rockers, cab corners and much more have all been replaced to factory new. Everything was coatedunder to prevent more rust in the future. The bed liner was color match to the vehicle with the main goal to keep as muchoriginality as possible. I did not try to take out every spot and minor dent but all the gaps are excellent. The paint scheme and stripe kit can not be reproduced and in myopinion the best thing about this edition. The Fiberglass top has been resprayed with bed liner and I don'tthink it has ever been removed. The rear door need a little guidance but latches closes and locks. The Scoutappears to have never been wrecked or even get a good size dent.
Interior - The interior carpet was notsomething that could not be saved. The seats andeverything else is there in the original fabric. You can decide if youwant to keep the bed liner as is or perhaps find amatching carpet or floor liner. All the gauges work. Theradio works but there are no speakers hooked up in the door or the rear butthe wires andholes are there. Thecourtesylighting needs to be reconnected. The headliner is in great shape in theoriginal fabric also. The front doors have new weather stripping and open and shut perfectly. Doors lock. Dash pad is excellent. Heater core is new. All the under dash AC is there but notworking or charged.
Other -The gas tank is solid steel 33 gallons. It was cleaned and a new sending unit added so thefuel gauge would work. All the lights workcorrectly. The front winch is great with remote included. One of the hard top sliders needs a latch. All the glass is in great shape except thewindshield has a crack, but I couldnot force myself topull it with that original International Logo on it. The side windows both roll up and down. The vent wing are mostly in goodshape but the driver has a break in the upper corner metal that does not hurt operation.
This Scout drives great on the road and does not wander. It is easy to drive but if youhaven't had a diesel fromthis era, you will need to get use to driving it. These engineshave a ton of torque but not horsepower. Itwon't set any 0-60 records. Those 4 speeds are there for a reason and you have to get the most out of each one. The magic is when you drop it down in 4 Low. This Scout will go anywhere and look good doing it. Please let me know if you have any questions. I am sure I have missedsomething so don't hesitate to ask. $1000immediate deposit via PayPal. Thanks for looking and good luck!
