1979 GMC Jimmy High Sierra
For sale is a 1979 3 owner GMC Jimmy. Ultra rare truck with every factory option available in 79. I have owned the vehicle since 2003. It is a solid rust free CALIFORNIA truck that spent the first half of its life in sunny southern California and then was brought to Oregon where we don’t use road salt. It went through a full restoration in the mid to late 90’s at which time the original 400 engine and transmission were rebuilt, also received new OEM doors, new interior, and repainted. In the 2000’s it received many mechanical upgrades including heavy duty ¾ ton axles.
This is a very reliable vehicle that I used, cared for and drove for many years and would not hesitate to take it absolutely anywhere. As I built the truck no corners cut or expenses spared. Each component was carefully chosen to make a reliable capable classic 4x4. It is not a show truck but could be with a refreshed paint job. It is a go anywhere and get home again off road vehicle with its front and rear lockers, heavy duty axles, winch, etc. but shows almost as well as a pavement princess. This truck was my pride and joy for many years but it is time to move on and let someone else enjoy it. Bid with confidence, this is the real deal.
It is equipped with 400 CI engine, optional 31 gal. fuel tank, power windows, power locks, power rear glass, Air conditioning, cruise control, factory engine oil cooler, Trailering Special package, soft ray glass, sliding side top windows, delay wipers, factory tachometer, and tilt column.
See the list below for everything done to this amazing Jimmy and just how much time and money went in to build this vehicle.

Transmission is sometimes lazy to go into gear on cold mornings(bad torque converter input shaft seal allows torque converter to drain off over-nite) With that being said it has been like this since the day I bought it over 13 years ago and has never caused any issues. Vehicle runs and drives perfect and shifts thru all gears perfectly.
Exterior:
All factory trim and badging is on and in good shape
Absolutely no dings or dents in entire vehicle
No rust (very small area of a bubble where top meets the cab corner pass. side and one area of very minor surface rust on passenger side rocker panel size of a quarter-see pic) This is probably one of the straightest rust free Jimmy’s you will ever find in this price range.
Was professionally repainted in mid 90’s with PPG base coat PPG clear coat. The paint is showing it’s age consistent with use (this is a driver) and clear coat has peeled in places on the hood, there are rock chips on the rockers, and has nicks and chips here and there. There is a large paint chip off area on the passenger side front fender top that happened in an ice storm-see pic.)
Doors replaced with new OEM doors with new window regulators, motors, and lock mechanisms in 1996, all work perfectly.
All glass is good no cracks or chips
Rear window drive cable replaced
Fiberglass topper was sanded smooth and also repainted. No cracks in top. Side slider windows work.
Custom front and rear extra heavy duty steel bumpers built for this truck by a local welder.
Warn 8274-50 8000lb. winch with new solenoids and upgraded Warn motor and brand new style controller. Custom heavy duty power cables to two optima batteries. Winch is mounted so it cannot be unbolted easily and stolen.
Rear 2” receiver hitch
Factory heavy duty front tow hooks
Hella rectangular driving lights wired to illuminted dash switch
Hella H4 headlight conversion kit (super bright)
Cobra CB with weather channels wired to 102” stainless whip antenna
New 6x9” speakers in boxes bolted to rear fenders

Brand new Hankook 315/75-16 Dynapro Mud tires mounted on Factory Chevy 16x9” white wheels with correct Chevy hubcaps. Less than 1500 miles on tires
Rear mud flap guards
Carr Hoop steps under doors
All Energy Suspension body mounts
On board 12v air compressor under hood-Fill tires, water toys, etc.
Everything on this vehicle works as it should. I even reworked all the ducting diverter doors and vacuum actuators for the a/c and heater system. The cruise control does work and is all hooked up, the actuator button on the column is a little worn so sometimes you have to press it a few times to set the speed. A/C needs charge, but system has been sealed and will function with a recharge.
