Car description |

For your bidding pleasure today a One Owner 1971 Mustang Mach 1 fastback nearly 100% original and 99% rust free. Whether you are looking for an original "barn find" to keep or a chassis upon which to build your dream rod here is an excellent opportunity to start with a remarkably rust free platform with 100% original panels.
The owner the original owner received this car as a high school graduation present and drove it daily through college and a few years more and then acquired another daily driver econo-box ( I saw a Mercedes in the garage) or two and kept this baby for a weekender. Eventually weekends became once a year and now it has not been driven in five years. It is in California NON Op Status so no back fees are due.
It is and was built as a 302 V-8 2 barrel and three speed manual transmission. All of the sheet metal and glass are original. The windows go up and down effortlessly the outside mirrors are all original as is the paint. The paint is worn through from all of the car washing but there is no rust along the windows or drip rails or in the doors as the car was garaged much of its 44 years. There is a little bit of rust at the rear wheel well on both sides and I have provided a photo of each; typical moisture catcher behind the wheel. All of the floor pan is original and solid with minor surface rust observed not much really nothing dangerous or critical no holes nor the beginning of a hole.
There is some caked oil and dirt on the usual places; backing plates axle housing / third member and bottom of the engine. Pretty much what you would expect of a 159441 miles car. The car was driven into the garage five years ago but we pulled it out with a tow truck and brought it to the shop to put it on the lift for photos. The engine does turn over and will fire with a prime through the carb but it's going to need some TLC and a battery and fresh gas and most likely a carburetor overhaul to drive again. And tires. The tires are shot at the side walls and leak especially the right front. They will hold air long enough for loading and trailer-ing.
There is a paint abrasion on the left door see photo which was done in the garage at slow speed and appears to be just paint I do not see any bent tin. There is another one over the right rear wheel but again it looks to me to be only paint no metal issues. The rear valance or gravel shield has been pulled away at the right rear see photo which I don't quite understand unless someone pulled on it before I got involved. An easy fix too.
Other observations; there is a "new" or replaced starter alternator (used- I observed junk yard ink on it) gas tank exhaust and muffler and timing cover and water pump on the engine. The seller / owner acknowledges these repairs and says the 2 barrel carb was rebuilt once as well. She states that the engine and transmission and differential are all original to the chassis and only accessories were repaired as needed over the years. I also observed mouse droppings along the torque brackets under the hood so there have been critter visitors. The car comes with Ford Factory repair manuals 1 2 4 and 5 two copies of service specs and a set of electrical schematics. She did a lot of her own maintenance.
Interior; the steering wheel has lost a few pieces of plastic on the outer rim the dash pad is cracked and the front seat back panels have faded. The seats themselves are all original covers. see the photos. The radio is factory AM only. There are speakers in the rear panels so I assume it had an 8-track or something at one time. Or maybe those were factory?
So there you have it folks a one owner 71 Mustang Mach-1 302 V8 - 3 speed with original engine and transmission. How rare is that! The car can be observed by appointment in Spring valley CA. and I will gladly answer any questions and inquiries through eBay. Please ask before you bid. Please.
