Car description

Up for sale is this well preserved 1930 Ford Model A Woody wagon. It has been in storage since 1959 until it was removed in late 2014. It is based off the original Traveler model that was built in late 1930 / early 1931. I bought 4 cars from an older retired gentleman who came to terms with the fact that he was not going to finish these cars. He was a huge Ford fan and especially loved Model A's. He was walking through a swap meet one day in 1956 and stumbled across a set of stainless steel dishes and bowls. He asked the guy selling them what they were for and the guy explained to him that they were from a very rare Model A Woody called a Traveler. Henry Ford built 10 to 14 of these Travelers in late 1930/early 1931 as a primitive vehicle for camping. The history on these vehicles are very vague and there are a few different stories regarding them. From what I was told. Henry Ford took 3 of these Travelers up in to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan along with some news reporters to demonstrate what they were capable of doing. They were a new 2dr design compared to the 4dr standard woody wagons. Behind the 2 front seats were a fold down bed. some shelves and a set of stainless steel dishes/bowls. In the roof was a Model T gas tank that was used as a water tank that gravity fed water down into the bowls. Well Henry Ford and his guys were sneaking off at night and staying at a local bed & breakfast in a nearby town instead of camping in the Travelers like they claimed to be doing. The reporters got wind of this and poked fun at him and the Traveler when they returned. Ashamed and embarrassed. Henry scrapped the idea and no Travelers were made. There are no known original Travelers left in existance. After the previous owner learned about the Traveler. he became fascinated with them and set out to build one. He found a near mint 1930 Ford fordor sedan in a junkyard that had a tree fall on the roof of the body. He bought the car and removed the body. He was able to locate plans for the Traveler and had carpenters build the body based off these plans. They were about 95% finished when their workshop caught on fire one night. They managed to push the Traveler outside before it went up in flames. The owner brought the car back to his barn in 1959 and parked it in the corner where it sat in dry. heated storage for the next 56 years until I removed it after purchasing it. Once I got it to my shop. the carburetor was rebuilt. new spark plugs and leads were installed and a fresh battery and battery cables were installed. We fired it up and verified that it runs drives starts and stops. NO OTHER WORK HAS BEEN DONE. I am a firm believer that cars original as this need to be kept original. They are only original once and that is very important. No restoration has been done of any kind and no aftermarket or reproduction parts have been installed. It is completely original. The waterpump will need to be rebuilt as it has a slow leak. I am including a rebuild kit with the vehicle. This car is in barn find condition but is in very nice shape. It is completely rust free and very straight. The paint is all original. There are some scrapes and imperfections on the fenders but it is in above average condition for being 85yrs old. The wood is in excellent condition and has been well preserved. The front wood floor was removed to install the battery and cables. It's not in the pics but we do have it along with the rubber mat that goes over it. This woody still has the original wiring from 1930 in it. If you were going to make this car a driver. I would recommend replacing the wiring. I am including an NOS wiring harness with the vehicle. Also included with the car but not seen in pics is the horn button/light switch. the front splash apron that goes between the front fenders. a spare rim. and I have the original stainless steel dishes/bowls from the original Traveler!! There are window curtains for the front doors as well. The muffler is included with it. but not currently installed. I also have a rear tail light and license plate bracket. All parts are original Henry Ford. no reproductions!!The interior is what was not finished when the car was built in the 50s. The 4 seats out of the fordor sedan are sitting inside it but not attached or bolted down. I didn't really want to take this vehicle in any certain direction and am leaving it to the new owner. If it was mine. I would run all 4 seats so my children could ride in the back. but I understand how someone would want to finish it out just like how the Traveler was originally with the bed and shelving etc. Cars this original and well preserved are getting harder and harder to find. This car is an absolute time capsule in my opinion. It has been in storage longer than it hasn't! We are located in Liberty Township Ohio which is about 25 miles north of downtown Cincinnati. Ohio. I have a clear Ohio title in my name. A $500 deposit is due within 48hrs of auction ending. Balance due within 7 days. This car will not leave my garage until all funds have cleared.
