Car description

Howard Marmon of Marmon Motor Car Company joined forces with the former US Army Chief Engineer, Arthur Harrington in 1931 to perform all-wheel-drive conversions of vehicles using a Herrington-patented axle joint that allowed the powered front wheels to steer. Four years later in their effort, Marmon-Herrington patented a transfer case specifically to convert two-wheel-drive Ford vehicles to all-wheel-drive. This partnership with Ford lasted for the next 25 years ending in the early 60's when Ford introduced its factory 4-wheel drive to their F series trucks.
The 1956 Ford F100 Marmon-Herrington 4X4 offered here has been the recipient of a recent complete restoration. The truck is powered by a rebuilt 292 Y-block V8 engine mated to what is believed to be its original 4 speed manual transmission and original Marmon-Herrington single-range transfer case. The truck was completely disassembled, the frame was bead blasted and refinished with POR-15 and the body is painted in BASF Lime Green basecoat/clearcoat exterior paint. The chrome and grill have been furbished and the truck retains the original Marmon-Herrington badge. The truck also features a restored wood bed floor, new dual exhaust, all new or refurbished componentry, new tires, and the signature wraparound windshield.
Mechanically, the truck starts right up with no issue and drives out well. It has a very torquey low gear, it shifts well through all the gears very well and does everything it should.
Ford's alliance with Marmon-Herrington is an important chapter in the history of the company's commercial vehicle lines and this 1956 F100 4X4 exemplifies the all-wheel-drive Fords of that era. As the vintage 4X4 market continues to surge, historically significant vehicles as this Marmon-Herrington F100 will continue to be great automotive investments.
