This little convertible is the predecessorto the iconic Ford Mustang which debuted 1 year later. The early sixties was a time when baby boomers were growing into new drivers and American car culture became a way of life. The demand for cool smaller cars was trending. The marketplace was full of big full sized cars like Galaxies, Impalas and Country Squires, however those cars were something "your parents drove" and were not considered cool. The Falcon was initially a cheap entry level car marketed to teachers or secretaries. The "MileageMaker" six cylinder motor was a decent power plantto get you from point A to B and nothing more. The demographic of young drivers was emerging and the brain trustat Ford needed to spice up their product line to capture this emerging market. Half way through 1963, a 260cid V8 motor became an option and the Falcon Sprint was born. A 1963 1/2 Falcon Sprint is the only first generation Falcon availablewith a V8. The first generation Falcon Sprint was an experiment to gauge the market and the basis for the 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang which came out 1 year later. The drive train, interior, chassis and suspension were all identical to the Mustang. A 1963 1/2 Falcon Sprint with bucket seats was only produced in very limited numbers and only 10,479 were built, while the Sprint Convertible was even more rare and only 4,602 were ever built. Now 57 years later I wonder how many of those 4,602 are still around today. The 1963 1/2 Ford Falcon Sprint will always be significant in automotive history; it was only built for half a year but gave birth to one of the most iconic cars of all time, this historical significance make a 63 1/2 Falcon Sprint convertible with a 4 speed one of the most coveted Falconsavailable. Do not miss out on this opportunityto own this Mint Green 1963 1/2 Falcon Sprint Convertible.Vin Decode:Vin= 3H15F2208223=1963H= Lorain, OH15= 2 Dr. ConvertibleF= 260 V8Sequence # 220822Vin Data Plate:Body 76B=Sports Convertible (Futura)Color D= Mint GreenTrim 87= TurquoiseDate 23F= May 23rdAxle 4= 3:25:1Transmission 5= 4 Speed ManualCosmeticallythis car is a survivor and in great shape for 57 year old convertible. The body is pretty darn straight. However it is almost 6 decades old and has a few dings here and there the worst is on the lower portion of the passenger door. There is no rust on the body which is a testament to the environmentthe car has been stored in for the last 57 years. The original Mint Green paint is in fair condition, it is very much present on the car however the oil based paint has lost a lot of the shine and needs the oil to be revitalized to energize the shine. All of the bumpers and emblems are in great shape. The convertible top has been replaced and looks flawless. The Turquoise interior invites you to step inside and enjoy the styling only found from an American car built in the height ofthe space race. The dash is in fantastic condition, the factory tachometer looks great and is functional. All of the gaugesare functional and look great. The bucket seats are in great condition, the Turquoise color is very vibrant and there are no rips or tears. The door panels are in great shape as wel las the carpet complete with TurquoiseFalcon Sprint floor mats. The Turquoise Convertible top cover is also very vibrant and the elasticity is perfect to button up ever button. The fact it is still very elastic and not dried out is a testament to its storage and lack of use in the sun.Fire up this little hot rod and the 260 V8 roars to life. The motor runs strong, there are no leaks or weird noises. It is the original numbers matching 260cid V8 that was ordered with the car in May of 1963. This car is a blast to drive, small v8 powered rear wheel drive with a 4 speed manual will always put a smile on your face. The exhaust sounds great as well, she has a nice deep tone but nothing too obnoxious. Best of all everything works from the top to the radio. Overall this Sprint is in good mechanical condition and is ready to be enjoyed. This listing includes well over 150 detailed photos in various lighting and the vehicle has been described as descriptive as possible.
