Offered here is a rare chance to own a true survivor show car completed in 1965. It is called the “Cockroachâ€. You can google it and find other pictures and magazine coverage. It was brought out of long term storage in 2006 and is still in show condition. It was built between 1959-65 by Jim cooper in Illinois, painted by well known Ed Lepold who is still with us today. Shown in 60’s-70’s and even raced at drag strips.
1931 ford roadster chopped windshield, heavy channel over a chromed 1932 frame, nearly the entire chassis and undercarriage is chrome even the floor boards. Dropped front axle, juice brakes, custom made hairpins front and rear, 56 Chevy posi chromed rear, chopped 32 grill, original 1960 Astro supremes, vintage slicks in rear not new repops, custom nerf bars front and rear, 425 Buick nailhead pumped with all the original speed parts, 6x2 chromed strombergs running center 2. Custom made dragster headers chromed with block offs and full length chrome exhaust out the back. 400 tranny installed in 70’s (originally had 4 speed), Stewart warner gauges housed by original Hollywood acc boat panel, chrome column with original to build superior wood steering wheel. The paint!! The paint is said to be nearly 78 coats!!! Lacquer job done by Ed LePold in ‘65 went heavy with gold base covering with custom candy and fogged highlights. The paint does have its flaws (chips, checking, etc) but for its age is amazing. Interior was done by Dicky Wright upon completion of the car. Only the carpet has been replaced. There is so much more info and all is documented. Have original build pics some black n white, still has the original to build 61 Illinois plates. The car has been cover car for Traditional Rod n Kustom, featured recently Gasoline Magazine, featured online websites and many articles. Recently displayed at Sacramento’s Autorama drawing quite the crowd, lots of attention and even awards . The car can be driven and runs amazingly but after owning awhile I’ve decided to park and preserve it which somewhat bores me. I love the car and have no problem keeping it if not sold or traded. I’m currently after a 1935/6 ford kustom roadster and May trade for one. Or 37-40 Lincoln zephyr, 36-7 la salle vert.
