1948 FORD F6 TRUCK This is a cool old F6 ford truck. This truck is somewhat rare, given that it has the short wheelbase. I don't have production numbers. Most F6 model trucks had a much longer wheelbase. The frame is original, and hasn't been shortened. I haven't measured the wheelbase but it looks to be the same as a pickup with an 8' box. You could put a box on it and run it with the singles in the rear. Some truck companies did use the heavy suspensions in pickups but just had the single rear tires. I do have extra wheels I can include if you want to run it as a dually. The bed is 7' wide, which should cover the duals if you choose to do that. I planned to run it with the single rear wheel, and I will if it doesn't sell. The truck runs great, has a nice body, and I do have a clear title. Below are more details. Feel free to ask questions. Message me if your interested in doing something early on it. I also have more pics I can send. Thanks. BODY Thetruck has very nice sheet metal. It has great patina. I think the patina would show a little better if it was waxed or clear coated. I would do that if I kept it but you can decide. There is no rust-through except for minor rust starting in the floorpans where your feet sit. This rust does not need to be repaired now and they are still very solid. The doors and hood open/shut as they should. The drivers door needs a new outside door handle and the window track also needs repaired. The window crank broke off and would be hard to repair. Replacement door regulators are probably reproduced. Most of the parts on an F6 are the same as an F1, and tons of replacement parts are available for the pickup models. The pictures pretty much tell the story. I had the flatbed built out of some barn wood I had. The crossmembers are new but the decking is older barn style wood. I didn't put a headache rack on it because there are many ways to do that and I thought the buyer could decide. I can do that for you for an hourly rate, and put on side racks if you'd like. There are also many ways to build those. The stainless grille bars and hood trim are in nice shape. MECHANICAL This ford has the flathead V8. It runs very nice and doesn't smoke. It doesn't tick or knock or have any abnormal sounds. The clutch and transmission work fine. I've driven it around my place and on my driveway. The brakes work fine. They should be checked out more thoroughly though before being driven on the highway. The truck needs to be rewired. It has the old insulated wire and some of it has lost the insulation. This is very easy on a truck like this, since there is very few electrical items to rewire. The only thing electrical that is hooked up now is the fuel pump (new), the ignition and the starter. Those items have new wiring. The fuel tank needs cleaned. I have another tank off another truck I was going to switch out, but if that tank needs cleaned the truck will just be running on a temporary tank for loading. New fuel tanks are not very expensive but you can clean them. I would change all the fluids, belts, and hoses if you plan to drive it very far. I would do a basic tuneup with cap/rotor/wires/ etc. The carb works good and the choke functions as it should. overall, the truck will need a few things but no major mechanical work. The truck still has the original taillight. There are a variety of options for turn signals, so I just left that up to the buyer. INTERIOR The interior in this truck is pretty basic. It needs a floormat. The seat is in usable shape but not real nice. There is no headliner and I'm not sure that it ever had one but I think they had a cardboard type and reproductions are cheap. The dash and gauge area are in nice shape and not cutup. I didn't try everything before unhooking the wiring but I know the heater fan worked and the lights I believe. This has an aftermarket radio from the era, with an under-dash unit and speaker. Overall, this is a clean old survivor. It is used, old and sold as-is. Thanks and happy bidding. |
