1989 Merkur XR4Ti 4 Cylinders W 2.3L MFI Turbo SOHC German Made Ford RARE!
The Merkur is a German made Ford that was badged as a Sierra in Europe where they did very well as Rally vehicles as well as Police Pursuit Vehicles. It's a front engine rear wheel drive and a very rare model in the U.S. They were sold through Mercury dealers in the US but the car actually has some Ford badging inside the vehicle. The engine is the same Ford engine that was used in the Mustang SVO, Ford Ranger, and Thunderbirds of that time so there are a lot of parts out there for this vehicle.
I've really enjoyed this car while I've had it. I used it to putt around on the weekends running errands, etc. It's fun to get the odd looks and questions about the vehicle, it's a very unique car. It starts and runs but it definitely has it's fair share of issues. I'm selling because while I always thought of it as a project car I don't really have the money or the mechanical ability to work on it. It really needs someone who knows how to tinker with it and who enjoys working on cars. The car is missing a couple of it's wheel covers and has a dent from where someone backed into it (see the pictures)
The tires are new and so is the battery. Some pictures show all the wheel covers on the rims but unfortunately the car only has two covers right now. There's a crack in the windshield and some small dents around the car, the largest of which has it's own individual photo. The driver's side windshield wiper arm is broken, the mechanics still work, it's the metal arm that broke. On a hot day the car will sometimes overheat, the farthest I drive it is an hour into Reno. I don't think I'd be comfortable driving it much farther than that. Please contact me if you have any questions.
