Car description

1928 Ford Model A Tudor Coupe

When the Model A was introduced in December 1927, there were actually riots in a few U.S. cities. In one week, 20 percent of the population (25 million people) attempted to get to their neighborhood Ford dealer to see the new car. The difference between the Model A and Model T was like night and day, and the public liked what they saw, buying about 5 million Model As between 1927 and 1931. While the T was nicknamed "Tin Lizzie," the A became known as the "Baby Lincoln" because of the similar styling.

A funny thing happened on the way to the corner grocer back in 1928. A gentleman purchased a raffle ticket for a 1928 Model A as the prize...he won! 69 years later, his son began a full frame-off restoration of this prize from 1928. This was 1997, the job was completed in 2001. In 2015 the car had another restoration, just to touch up some faults, and in 2017 up went up for sale. So, for 90 years this car remained in the same family! Our second owner, replaced some wheel nuts and put on new tires, had the engine gone over due to it sitting since 2015, and now she is fit as a fiddle, ready to go out and win shows, and go for Sunday drives, or show off in parades...ahhhhhooooga!

Exterior
This writer's award goes to this car for the best color combination on a Model A. All straight rust-free panels, minding their gaps very well, are bathed in green which is just beautifully applied. On the belt line of the doors is a metal molding with a hint of blue green for some nice contrast. This color trims the window surrounds as well and sports a dual pinstripe highlighter in white. Beautifully shaped fenders in black frame 21-inch black wire spoked wheels, wrapped in new wide whites to the tune of 4.40/4.50x21's. A beautiful near perfect textured vinyl top covers the roof and this presents to us in black. All chrome on this car is just pristine, and mirror like. From the radiator surround to the dual bar bumpers, door handles, rear view mirrors and taillight bezels isn't all there and squared away. A spare hangs from the rear of this car, and if you look at the beautiful line from any angle you'll agree this car is 100 percent cool ragtime design. Heee Haw!

Interior
Pulling open the doors we see pristine wool door panels in gray, with a nice trim textured piece up at the sills in contrasting cream. Handles and cranks are just perfect. Moving inside is more wool covered overstuffed buckets with low backs, and plenty of cream wide piping to frame the wool. In back, a beautiful overstuffed tuck and roll wool covered bench/couch for ultimate passenger comfort, and in tune of the roaring 20's with flapper excess. Upfront is a curved lacquered wood dash top, which is above a green body matching dash front. Keep it simple is the theme with a central chromed "mask" style instrument cluster surround. A wood steering wheel with spark advance fronts the dash, and above is a nice tight gray mohair cloth headliner. Noted the windshield flips out for some extra airflow for those hot days when wearing your straw hat. Shucks that's dandy.

Drivetrain
Opening the cowled vented hood, we see a perfectly restored and well maintained inline 4-cylinder engine. This is just perfect with no rust, and some notes of caution on the use of distilled water only, and a warning that is a 6-volt positive ground, before you begin to fool around! 201 Cubes will cover it, and it has a single barrel carburetor to feed it. A 3-speed manual transmission is on back of this stout 4 popper. Just showroom under here, which is yet another winning highlight to this beautiful example. Yowza!

Undercarriage
Like new with all clean black metal floorpans, frame, and structural elements to hold the body on tightly. Transverse leaf springs are on all 4 corners, as are mechanical drum brakes, all clean and green. (Well actually black!)

Drive-Ability
To drive one, is to know how to start one, and it was off to the races with this excellent example. It started right up, idled smoothly, and ran like a champ with nice acceleration, simple easy steering, and solid braking. You will not break any world speed records, but it will definitely get you where you want to go. All in working clean condition on the driving side.

The late 1920's has roared into the halls of Classic Auto Mall, all in perfect style, beautiful color combination, and turnkey drive away condition. Very well done, and in its 92nd year of only 2 owners. Plenty of TLC, and caring hands have kept this car as Henry made it and needs to be seen to be really appreciated. SO, view the photos carefully, and if you can make it in, it will be worth your while. If not, it speaks for itself (with my help!). I guess it could be a speakeasy?
