Car description

Thanks for looking at this mostly original 1968 GTCS California Special. I am the second owner of this car. I purchased this GTCS from the original owner. It is a real GTCS, I have Marti report, it is in GTCS registry. This car has always been in southern California. Purchased in Canoga Park, Owner then moved to Newport Beach where it resided most of its life under car port. It has been garaged since I purchased it. I have the original California 'pink slip' title in original owners name, and also have current clean title in my name. It is registered and tags are up to date. There were less than 4,000 1968 GTCS cars made. This one has the 289-2v C code motor, C-4 automatic transmission, factory AC (not blowing cold, needs service), original AM radio.Car has all its GTCS components; Lucas fog lights, all factory GTCS striping and stencil decals, California Special script emblems, factory fiberglass taillight panel, fiberglass trunk lid with integrated spoiler, fiberglass rear quarter extensions, side scoops, hood turn locks, and rear pop open gas cover. I have the original plastic Ford warranty card with original owners name, options, and selling dealer. Also original owners manual with original owners information. I do not have any other paperwork, besides maintenance work I have done. Original owner passed away in 2015.
As far as condition, it is not a perfect show car. Please review the photos. It has a ding on passenger front fender. It has a large scratch on hood. it has a ding on hood. The chrome is pitted, there is surface rust as shown in photos. Probably due to being under carport in Newport Beach. There is a bubble on lower drivers door. The rear fiberglass tail light panel has a crack, as does one of the quarter panel extensions. There is a stain on drivers front fender. Paint is slightly oxidized but can be rubbed out. Rear bumper has been bumped. Car has original chrome rear bumper guards and front painted bumper guards (installed on early cars) Interior is original, except drivers seat was recovered. Original dash pad is un cracked, as it has always had cover on it. Carpet, headliner and reset of interior is original, no cracks or tears. The weather stripping is original. Old, dry and brittle at windows. Has original bumper pads at trunk. Original matte in trunk, one original cardboard trunk filler protector (oil soaked), original spare wide oval tire. As shown in photos, rear valance panel has damage.
Electrically everything is in working order. Lights, fog lights, turn signals, integrated turn signals in hood are all working. Car is in working order. I believe it has original single exhaust, and it has exhaust leak that needs attention. Tires do not have a lot of wear, but they are probably 5-7 years old at this point. Transmission is fine. Shift selector lock out is worn.
I first saw this car advertised in 1989 Auto trader and met owner then. For many years this was their only vehicle. Due to back problems his wife could not drive it, and really as they were both retired it was used sparingly to go to marker, or doctors appointments locally. I highly doubt it saw the freeway much the last 20 years. I took ownership of this car in 2012-2013. I have collected some parts that will go with car over the years. NOS fiberglass tail light panel in ford box, NOS California Special emblems, NOS hood turn locks in Ford boxes, used original Shelby Cobra valve covers for 289-302, used 1968 Ford road wheels 14" with chrome rings and GT caps in excellent condition (the wheels were optional on this car, however GT caps were not correct for this car as it is NOT a true GT car. This is,however a true unmolested GTCS California Special. Book signed by Paul Newitt will go with car as well.
One last thing, the hood lock retainers under hood are original, and to my knowledge are not reproduced. The front grill is the original modified grill for the 1968 GTCS with original brackets intended for Marichal fog lamps. These also are not reproduced and is an excellent indicator that this car has not been damaged heavily and is in fact a true GTCS. Original tail light harness, black metal brackets at tail lamps are also original and in place. I think most of the paint is original, except for driver quarter appears to have been repaired at some point. I am the second owner, and I personally did purchase this car from original owner. I am not a dealer. This is a private party sale.
