1969 Ford Fairlane Cobra 2-Door hardtop
Thank you very much for taking time to look at this great example of 60s Ford muscle. We have attempted to restore the car to its original condition, giving due consideration to its very interesting history.
The car was ordered from Swendson Ford in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 11, 1968 for the sole purpose of being a pure racecar. The car was delivered on December 4, 1968 and immediately prepared for the upcoming drag race season. Its life at the races lasted several years, when the car was retired in 1973.
Many positive benefits resulted because of this history. First, the mileage (22900) is 100% actual mileage. Second, because the car was destined for racing, it was ordered with a very rare set of options. The black vinyl roof was an interesting combination with radio delete and 428 SCJ engine. The “Drag Pack†option was not yet available when the car was ordered, but the vehicle is equipped with what would have been the “Drag Pack†package after 2/20/69. The Marti report defines this car as 1 of 86 with these Paint, Trim, Engine and Trans codes!! The austere interior combined with the steel wheels and “poverty caps†makes this baby a real sleeper. We have tried very hard to keep this look as original and menacing as it was “in the dayâ€.
After the car was retired, it spent 24 years garaged, surfacing again in 1997 when it was offered for sale to Mr. Jim Plimpton owner of Authentic Automotive in Cudahy, WI. Jim finally acquired the car in March of 2006. The body and paint restoration began when we collaborated with Authentic in late 2007, ending with the beautiful paint and finish you see today.
This vehicle is in as pristine shape as any 50-year-old car can be. In restoring this beauty, we wanted to be as original as possible but keeping its racing heritage and period correct enhancements in mind. We have chosen to keep the original look of the tires; with the original optioned bias ply F70X14 raised white letter tires.
The flat hood begs for comment. Early built non-ram air Cobras did not come with a hood scoop. The scoop was originally considered an option and was not ordered for this car. In addition, a non-scoop car had the red “428†badge on the front fenders. These features contribute to the uniqueness of this car.
This car has participated in numerous concours shows throughout the United States. The prestigious list includes:

The “Black Cobra†is an older restoration but has held up very well and still shows as one of the best. Please note that the three vehicle pictures with the greenery in the background were professionally taken several years ago. The other body shots are my sub-par photography.
The car still looks as good today, as when the professional shots were taken. We invite you to come to Florida (who doesn’t want to come down this time of year?) and inspect the car in person. You will not be disappointed!!! If you can not come yourself, please send your representative. We can not be responsible for managing your expectations if you have not inspected the car.
Please send your questions through the eBay system. Thank you for your interest.
This car is in pristine condition and is priced accordingly. It would be very difficult to duplicate this car for the selling price. If you want more of a driver type car, please see our other auction for a 1969 Ford Talladega.
