Car description

Rare 1957 Ford Thunderbird w/ E CODE setup w/312 V8 & Dual 4BBL Carburetors,*NO RESERVE* Condition is used. Restored 12 years ago and put into storage 10 years ago with 7,000 miles on the rebuilt 312 c.i.d. engine. I have driven the car 250 miles. Engine is sound. See photos of spark plugs which came installed on the engine.
Dreaming of a classic 1957 rust-free California Thunderbird with rare E-Bird Body and Engine???
This striking "torch red" vehicle provides a rare opportunity to own a classic, fully functional dual quad 312 c.i.d. engine with 3 speed overdrive transmission 1957 T-Bird at an affordable price. Of the 21,380 1957 T-Birds produced, only 1,499 bodies earned the "E-Code" designation. Of the 1,499 E-Code vehicles manufactured, only 175 were equipped with 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive which makes this car body and engine extremely rare.
Features of this E-Code set up racing Bird include:1. 312 c.i.d. engine verified by examination of the end of the crankshaft ( see photo of crankshaft marked with aspirin size dot which verifies it is a 312 c.i.d engine ).You can rest assured this is not a 292 c.i.d. engine!2. Matched pair of Holley 4000 list number 1434 carburetors required for authentic manual transmission E-Birds with or without overdrive.3. Well functioning authentic Borg T85 3-speed manual transmission with Borg R11 overdrive.4. Authentic aluminum dual quad intake manifold.5. Authentic dual quad air cleaner.6. Authentic dual quad fuel filter.7. Authentic dress-up aluminum valve covers.
Factory invoice dated 3/04/57 shows a sales price of $3,431.52 with the following options:1. Engine dress up kit. See engine photos.2. Positive action wipers.3. Tinted Glass.4. Power Steering. See engine photos.5. 750 x 14 white side wall tires. See photos.6. Heater and defroster.7. Back up lights. See photo tail light.8. Fender shields full wheel cover. (i.e. Fender skirts). See photos rear quarter panel.Copy of invoice will come with vehicle.
The major drawback to this vehicle is that the VIN number on the frame has been removed for reasons unknown. This vehicle would easily be worth more if it possessed matching VIN body and frame numbers. A driver who desires a showy.well running vehicle that will not enter in Concours competition may not care about this feature. The frame and the E Code body are genuine 1957 Ford Thunderbird parts. A minor drawback is the hard top needs repair.
Before I realized the missing frame VIN, I performed the following work on the car to bring it to driving functionality:1. The gas tank was removed, reconditioned, and reinstalled with new insulator pads, new strap pads, and filler neck o-ring.2. The fuel filter was replaced3. The oil pressure sensor was replaced.4. A new Carter fuel pump was installed.5. The overdrive relay was replaced.6. A new group 29 battery which is OEM group size battery for '57 T-Bird was installed.7. An AC Delco starter and starter drive were, which were rebuilt in USA, were installed.8. The correct gas cap for an early production '57 T-Bird was installed. This car is an early production model. Manufactured on January 26,1957.9. I inspected all 8 spark plugs to determine status of combustion in each cylinder. THEY ALL SHOWED NORMAL LIGHT BROWN COLORED ELECTRODES. SEE PHOTOS. NO CARBON DEPOSITS OR OIL FOULING.
Included in the sale price, I am providing great replacement parts to cure the two major faults in the car:1. The current heads on the car are from a Ford pickup truck 8.7:1 compression with smaller intake valves. I have purchased a pair of original E-Bird ECZ-G heads, 9.7:1 compression with large intake valves that have been magnafluxed to insure heads are good. The receipt stating that heads tested good will be provided. See photos.2. A hood in primer in great condition with no dents or bondo. See photos.
As with the car itsel, buyer will be responsible for shipping/pick up of the heads and the hood. The heads will be no problem because they can be put in the trunk of the car The hood will have to be shipped/picked up as a second item.
