Car description

1965 Ford Mustang Convertible

The 1965 Mustang set an all-time record for first-year sales of any new model. Today's auto market is too fragmented with different types of cars for a single model to ever get the wildly enthusiastic reception of the first Ford Mustang in America. Ever since its arrival, the Mustang has been a highly visible part of the American auto scene. Owners have included everyone from former President Bill Clinton and baseball star Reggie Jackson to Hollywood celebrities Jay Leno and Cher. Most likely, you've either owned a Mustang, or knew someone who did.

For consignment a resprayed in Light Blue, restored 1965 example of the original Generation 1 Mustang. With a black interior and black convertible top, this car with its original V8 and 4-barrel setup is very nicely preserved.

Exterior
With all rust removed, steel was smoothed and carefully sanded then give a coat of Light Blue. The paint is overall good, and the power black convertible top is unmarred and an overall clean and functioning condition. Plenty of chrome is attached at the bumpers, quarter panel insert, rocker trim, doors and mirrors, and around lighting and windows. Badging is correct, and exterior is looking sharp! Don't forget the original polished wire wheel covers, wrapped in skinny whites.

Interior
Save for the aftermarket stereo, the interior is looking much like original with vinyl seats nice and clean and showing little wear. Dash is clean, and full metal jacket, original steering wheel is fronting it, and the chrome on it, is slightly corroded and not perfect. Door panels are as clean as the seating, and the plastic center console houses the automatic gear selector. Aluminum and black trim molding runs down the center of the console and presents as patina, as does instrument cluster surround showing some wear and fading. Rubber floor galloping pony mats cover a slightly faded black carpet.

Drivetrain
A 289ci V8 sits in an unrestored engine bay but is looking good with its gold painted valve covers and air cleaner housing. This 289 is fed by a 4-barrel carburetor, and has a C4 3-speed automatic transmission, and an 8" 3.00 conventional rear axle. We note that the intake carries a part number from a later model, but that's splitting hairs.

Undercarriage
Appearing mostly original, with patina and surface rust, the frame is solid, and has well preserved floorpans and inner fenders. Rockers are good, and suspension parts have some surface rust.

Drive-Ability
This car started easily and ran great. It handled our test track like a champ, and we found no issues with it mechanically or cosmetically.

A good example of a 1965 Ford Mustang, the original model, with a respray and regular maintenance performed. Interior is original and in good condition, and engine bay presents nicely in its original condition. Convertible works great and it is not a color usually seen on a Mustang.
