This is a gorgeous and rare configuration for a 1962 Ford Thunderbird convertible. This is a sympathetic restoration of a 56,000 mile well loved car with the first owner having it 52 years. This is ready for concours showing or touring. It is a stunning example of the icon T-Bird. This is an incredibly early production convertible that was ordered to be a variant of a Sports Roadster with a VIN of 2Y85Z100059. The original owner was fastidious and didn't want to be forced into the cookie cutter "Sports Roadster" configuration. When he went to order the Sports Roadster the dealer told him he couldn't change its configuration with special requests. To begin with, he didn't want black interior (black interiors on a convertible get hot in the sun!). So he ordered it exactly as he wanted it. The car was special ordered with a silver interior, power seats, white convertible top, wire wheels, and no power windows or air conditioning. And he made the dealer install the tonneau cover and grab bar upon delivery. The door trim tag proves this very rare set of options. The engine is the original 390 cu in V8 with its factory installed optional chrome accessories. The original owner did not want power windows as he didnt believe they were reliable enough, thus the deletion of this quite normal power accessory. His wife later convinced him to add air conditioning. It is a very well done and an authentic addition. Look at the photos in the photo gallery of the engine compartment. That is all original and absolutely stunning. This T-Bird was a special gem for the original owners. After about 50 years of ownership and just over 50,000 miles of use, they set out on a sympathetic cosmetic restoration. The original owner had the car freshened with new paint, interior, new white convertible top and radials about five years ago. The paint and chrome are in excellent condition, by far better than when it left the factory. The front bumper has been re-chromed; all the rest of the chrome and stainless is original and very nice. They also added a modern AM/FM stereo. Much of the interior was also replaced or restored during the restoration. The carpet and, we believe, the seats are all new and look excellent. The covering of the dash pad has some repair needed to fasten the material near the defrost vents. The center armrest shows some slight use, otherwise the interior is excellent. We have detailed records and a DVD of the restoration. Shortly after the completion of the restoration the original owner passed away of a heart attack. That is when she sold the car to our consignment client. We've priced this to sell at a substantial discount. Hagerty Value (No. 2 Value): $42,300 $4,230= $46,530 More details will be added soon. Until then, please contact us with questions. This is a very interesting car that we're excited to have in our showroom! For more details call Harry Clark at 1.602.245.7200 or email us at .
