GR Auto Gallery is pleased to offer this very handsome 1938 Ford Deluxe Convertible Rumble Seat Coupe for consideration. This car was part of a long time prestigious collection of vehicles for over 30 years. The car presents its self in what is communicated to be, its original factory color, Ford Wern Building Tan, over tan interior with tan canvas convertible top.
This Ford Deluxe Convertible coupe retains a fantastic original core structure, is powered by its 221 Cubic inch V8 engine, 3 speed manual transmission and rear wheel drive. It features an older, (30 plus years), selective style restoration and from what we can tell, retains most, if not all its factory sheet metal. The Exterior paint remains vibrant and over all very nice in all areas. As one would expect, due to the age of the restoration, there are a few character flaws. The interior is excellent featuring its original banjo steering wheel, original shifter cane, original gauges, clock, radio, and properly recovered upholstery; rumble seat and all. The canvas top has been replaced and remains in very good condition. It should be noted that the original radio does power up and makes noise! Under the hood, lies Fords legendary 221 flat head V8, completely stock right down to the oil bathe air cleaner. The chrome and trim, again, overall, shows very nice and appears to be original and the frame and underside, although not detailed, remain super clean showing excellent structural integrity. Mechanically, the car starts up, runs, drives, shifts and stops, as it should.
For the last 30 years, this Ford has resided in a climate-controlled showroom of its private collection. It has been maintained to a point where it could be used at any moment. As a result, the car remains vibrant and full of life.
The Ford's of the 1930's were on the cutting edge of engineering and design. That automotive era had many companies throwing their hats in the ring of automotive engineering. Design changes were frequent and mechanical performance and options were constantly being developed. 1938 Fords, with their one off grille design, are quite rare and remain very desirable. A car of this caliber commands world attention and remains a great automotive investment.
