Car description

Hard-to-find 1961 Ford F100 Custom Cab 4X4 pickup truck with solid, original running gear and sheet metal that only has limited and confined rust issues. In 1959 Ford had just started building their own 4 wheel drive pickup trucks. 1961 represented only the third model year of 4X4 truck manufacturing by Ford and the first year of the desirable 1961-1966 body style. This truck was built in San Jose, CA in April of 1961 as a Domestic Special Order and then shipped to Salt Lake City. From there it went to Eastern Idaho where a flatbed was installed (originally a stepside) and then it was used as a farm/ranch truck for many years.
The running gear is all original and has been well-preserved. It consists of a 292CID Y-Block V8 connected to a Borg-Warner T98A four speed manual transmission with a Dana/Spicer 24 divorced transfer case. The front diff is a Dana/Spicer 446F (Dana 44) and the rear is a beefy Ford 9 inch. The engine has a new fuel pump and still has the original generator. It has a miss and needs the carb rebuilt (usually requires starting fluid) but still runs pretty well. 4WD works properly and the trans shifts well. The rear end has been beefed up with bracing and helper springs (see pics). It needs a new master cylinder and brake line running to the rear diff for the brakes to work.
The interior has strengths and weaknesses. The dash is in very good shape with all buttons and knobs in place and no cutting or butchery. Heater fan and kick panel vents work. Floorboards only have limited rust. Upholstery is rough but serviceable and there is no headliner. Inside passenger door handle is welded on. Doors are rattly when driven and need new weatherstripping. Idiot lights work but gauges do not.
The exterior has surprisingly little rust. It is primarily confined to the driver side cab corner, two small holes on the passenger door, and two floorboard supports (all clearly shown in my additional pics). The body has typical bumps and bruises from a life on the ranch. Long ago, teenage relatives of a prior owner did some poor touch-up with white spray paint but nothing irreversible. Headlights and front blinkers work; rear lights do not. All glass is good. Doors open and closeproperly but passenger door latch needs adjustment. Right windshield wiper works. Tires are very old.
Thisis a rare truck. It has good mechanical bones and primarily needs cosmetic love. Or just do the bare essentials (tune up, rebuild carb, change fluids, fix brakes, fix taillights, new tires) and enjoy it as is. Plus, its almost all stock with only limited modifications intended to enhance its utility as a farm truck. Vintage trucks that haven't been horribly buggered up over the years are getting harder and harder to come by. My hope is it ends up with someone who will preserve and enjoy it or take it to the next level.
