Car description |
---|
The beginning: When I purchased the car in 2000, it was a complete mechanically restored car in need of final paint. I drove the car to my Shop
Chassis: The factory front suspension has received dropped uprights by Fatman Fabrications. That dropped the front of the car 3â€. Cut coil springs resulted in another 3†drop, for a total of 6â€
The rear spring packs were re-arched for a 3†drop. 2†lowering blocks were added for a total drop of 5â€
The Chop: The roof received a 3 ½†chop. The B pillars were canted forward. The difference between this chop and more typical chops is in the area of the C pillars and rear window. Rather than leaning the rear window forward, the whole rear window frame was removed, and reinstalled 7†forward of the original position, then matched to the new roof profile. This also shortened the side windows by 7†for more of a “coupe†look. The resulting C pillar remains thin in profile for a more factory “lookâ€. Additional quarter panel bracing has been installed to compliment the strength of the new smaller side window. Lastly, the factory drip rails have been retained, for a more subtle and complete look.
Rear Quarter panels: The molding along the top of the rear quarter panels was removed, and the seam was welded and hand filed into a peak that matches the front fenders. The quarter panels also received new lower panels. Some sections were aftermarket panels. Some sections were made by hand with an English Wheel.
Hood: The factory stainless center piece and hood ornament were replaced by a creased metal peak, which has been welded into the factory trim groove.
Dash: The factory speaker grille has been replaced by a smooth panel, and the clock form has been extended up into the dash to match the speedometer shape. The radio openings have also been deleted.
Interior: All window trim moldings have been chopped and painted. Seats, door panels, and rear seat panels are refinished in the factory original materials. The only thing missing is a carpet and headliner. Factory headliner bows are included.
Engine/Transmission: Original flathead and 3 speed transmission have been painted and detailed. The engine features a metallic silver powder coated intake manifold, and hand-made tubular headers. Dual “Smitties†mufflers are ready to be installed.
Rear deck lid: Custom hidden hinges were built and installed, and all license plate trim holes were filled. A deck lid latch needs to be installed.
Bumpers: Customer Bumpers have had all bolt holes removed, custom bumper brackets have been built.
Firewall: The factory firewall shape has been retained, but all holes have been welded shut, with the exception of the ventilation openings.
Paint: The main body requires one final coat of high build primer before the final topcoat. All other panels and parts have been painted, and colour sanded. The colour is a factory GM base/clear metallic black. The bright silver metallic engine bay panels are done in a factory Mercedes Benz colour.
Chrome and Bright Trim: Reproduction stainless steel body side moldings and window trim are included, although the mounting holes in the body have been filled. The grille chrome is not of show quality. The bumpers will require re-chroming.
Glass: The factory rear window shape has been retained, and the window is included. It is not installed. All other glass will have to be cut. All vent window mechanisms are complete, but unchopped.
