Car description

1937 Ford Humpback

Ford was the world's first "green" company. Although probably not in the sense that you're thinking. From the outset, Ford used animal waste to power its American and British plants until 1939. Who knows, if it hadn't become so successful, they might have continued the practice. Henry Ford and Thomas Edison were total bros. Lots of geniuses become besties, if only because it's hard to relate to people who aren't quite so tack-sharp as you are. Ford and Edison were lifelong friends who owned neighboring vacation properties in Florida, and when Edison died - and this is more than a little weird, we'll admit - Ford actually captured his dying breaths in a test tube.

Fun to drive is the consigners words he uses to best describe this car. Mostly steel with fiberglass front fenders, a recent repaint., and the quintessential 350/350 combo under the hood, and we have ourselves a humpback hot rod.

Exterior
The Art Deco Style was all the rage in 1937, and Ford designers seized the moment with the slant-back and humpback sedans. A road to hood V grille, teardrop headlights, which on this car are inset into fiberglass fenders, split rear window, curvaceous rear lines with two tiny red circular taillights on stems, were the inspirations taken from the movement. The hump-back was hailed as one of the most beautiful designs of the decade. This 4-door is bathed in Dark Green Metallic which presents with a few faults, but is in overall good condition. Chrome is nicely polished, and in overall good shape with a few pits. Simple shined moon caps are attached to all 4 corners and are wrapped in thin white radials. A sneaky V8 logo makes its way on to the trunk handle.

Interior
Light green tweed covers door panels, front buckets, and rear bench, all of which feature some art deco inspired fan pattern stitching. Seat belts have been installed, as well as a brushed stainless tilt steering column and gauge dash cluster. Metallic green covers the simple dash metal, and an aftermarket radio hangs below the glovebox on the passenger's side. A nice green felt headliner is tight and dark clean green carpeting floods the floors. The trunk has also been attended to with gray and green coverings all around.

Drivetrain
The standard fare hot rod 350ci V8 with an Edelbrock Intake and 4-barrel carb on top, as well as backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission sits in the restored engine bay.

Undercarriage
A Mustang II front suspension has been added, and power front disc and rear drum brakes are noted. Underneath is clean and green, uhhh, mostly black actually. Some surface rust can be seen on the edges of the running boards and may indeed be creating the unevenness on the upper side corners of the running boards. All else under here is solid and structurally sound.

12 years ago, our consigner got ahold of this readymade hot rod, and decided it needed some changes in the color department, and the interior department. We here at Classic Auto Mall give you the Green Humpback...drum roll please...and "A lot of fun to drive".
