Car description |
---|
Solid, good running and driving, all stock, semi-rare (Super Cab 4X4 trucks in this body style were only made in 1978-79), 1979 Ford F250 Super Cab pickup truck which has had a lot of recent mechanical work done and has only had two long-term owners (1979-1999, 1999-2019). Plus it's a factory AC truck which just needs a new compressor.
The running gear is in great shape with a 400M V8 (which was rebuilt years ago and driven sparingly since), an NP435 4 speed manual transmission and NP205 transfer case running to a high-pinion Dana 44 in the front and a Dana 60 in the rear. This is the Holy Grail running gear combo for the 1979 model year.
Recent work includes...
* New Motorcraft 2150 Carburetor* New Fuel Pump* Fresh Oil & Filter* New Air Filter* New Plugs & Wires* New Brakes All Around* New Rear Hub Seals* New Right Front Brake Caliper
It's cold-blooded (they all are) but starts, accelerates, shifts, turns, brakes and stops really nicely once warmed up. The only thing I've noticed is a vibration (u-joint?) at lower speeds which seems to go away as you accelerate.
The exterior sheet metal is decent but could stand some love. It looks like it was originally two-tone white and blue and then was repainted blue at some point. And obviously it could use a new grille. The cab corners and rear fender wells were repaired long ago but rust is returning. I have treated exposed metal with a rust reformer so it won't spread. Patch panels are cheap and readily available or just leave it as is. And other than the right front fender and rear pickup bed corners, the exterior body panels are pretty straight. All glass is good, doors open and close solidly and windows roll up and down properly (regulators could use lubrication). Most exterior lights work. I also have some period-correct Ford towing mirrors to include if you're interested.
The interior is all original. I removed the front seat cover so you could better see the original upholstery. Rear seats are good but fronts are rough. Front floorboards have been repaired at some point but rears have not. I have treated it all with a rust reformer and then coated it with Rustoleum. Again, patch panels are readily available or just leave it as is. There is also a small amount of rust on the panel above the sun visors (interior only). Front seatbelts are missing but the rear belts could be moved forward. Dash is in pretty good shape and most gauges work except speedo/odo and temp.
This is a nice truck. It's mechanically sound and just needs some cosmetic love. Or use and enjoy it as is. It's also all stock with zero modifications. Trucks that haven't been horribly buggered up over the years are getting harder and harder to come by. My hope is it ends up with someone who will preserve and enjoy it or take it to the next level.
