1948 Ford Deluxe Coupe
In 1941, Ford introduced a heavily updated version of its bestselling sedan, but the onset of WW2 meant that production was halted in the interest of wartime production. The design was resumed after the war and a 1946 model was introduced with updated styling and was very similar to the earlier cars. 1948 was the last year for the body style, and the car was a great seller and the cars have become more popular in recent years.
Classic Auto Mall is pleased to present this very nice 1948 Ford 2-Door Coupe for your consideration. This car is in wonderful condition inside and out, with excellent Red paint and shiny chrome trim. The exterior features nice detailing and rides on wide Cooper Cobra radial tires. The interior is a custom cloth and is very clean, with interesting Dolphin instrumentation and original trim.
Exterior
Retaining all the original body panels, we see a beautiful long hood flanked by large fenders that house chrome bezeled headlights, a big horizontal ribbed FORD grille, and a curved bumper. All this is in excellent condition. Moving rearward, we note straight door panel with a slight flair at the bottom, and a stainless trim piece along the bottom. Going from the hood to the rear across the doors is another straight pointed belt line trim in excellent shiny condition. Another trim piece wraps around the middle of the fenders, and halts at each door adding to the shapely curve of the fenders. A split windshield with awesome chrome trim and 2 sets of chromed mirrors flank both sides and attach to the doors. Bringing up the bulbous rear, is an oval rear window, a large curved trunk and two protruding long oval taillights. Dual exhaust peek out from the curved rear bumper. As are all exterior surfaces paint is very glossy and dent free.
Interior
The dash in beautiful black with loads of art deco styled chrome houses two large round Dolphin aftermarket instruments a tach and a speedometer. These are flanked by a glovebox on the passenger side, and 4 Dolphin circular gauges on the left of the speedo. In the center we see an aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette Radio with vertical ribbed chrome speaker enclosure above. Fronting the dash is an original steering wheel complete with Ford V8 logo in gold field in the center. Nicely sculpted tweed red seat inserts are bordered by smooth gray vinyl. Seatbelts in bucket form are in the front, and a stitched bench in the rear. Headliner is tight, and nice deep dark red carpet floods the floors. A tall shifter sits proudly in the center in front of a custom-made center console.
Drivetrain
Within a like new engine bay sits a 302ci V8 and it is attached to a 3-speed automatic transmission. The engine sports shiny chromed Ford Racing valve covers, and a chromed air cleaner top with engraved flames.
Undercarriage
Overall the passage of time shows wear, but all surfaces are rust free and structurally sound. A dull shine prevails, and all appears to be mechanically sound underneath, with power disc brakes in front and rear power drums. A mustang 2 front end suspension, and coil-over and 4-link are on the rear. A Flowmaster exhaust snakes its way rearward and emanated from headers.
Drive-Ability
Starts quickly, runs great, smooth ride. What would be expected from a car restored to this level.
Take a 48 Ford, work the panels until they are perfect, then polish all the chrome and stainless that will adorn the car, pop in a 302ci mill, automatic transmission, and painstakingly restore the interior to a new modern version with buckets and seat belts, and my friends you have a super cool, art deco styled fender, but no running boarded, classic "rod" if you will, that will enable you to travel in style and comfort, while enjoying the vintage aspect of this fine example, fully restored and rebuilt.
