This 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby Clone was featured in Super Ford Magazine (see 2nd picture to read the article) and was fully restored to Top Show Honors. The person who did the restoration project had spent close to $30,000 on the project with himself doing most of the work. Since I obtained the car their has been about $6,000 more put into additional upgrades, and further improvements on the car .
I originally traded a 1968 GT 350 Shelby Mustang and a 1966 Mustang coupe that both needed a lot of bodywork for the car shortly after he had done the restoration. The odometer was reset after the restoration and I received it with less than 4,000 miles on it and sold it about 10+ years latter.
A friend of mine purchased the car and had it for several years and latter called to see if I was interested in buying it.I was not able to at that time but my brother in law and sister were interested in the car and decided to buy it instead. This car has been in our family for quite some time now and we hate to see it go but our mother has dementia and is in need of full time care now, so they have decided to sell the car to help with the costs of taking care of our mom.
I have done most of the work on the car over the years and am more familiar with cars, so I will be helping them with the listing and will try my best to answer any questions you may have.
In case you have not read the article from the Magazine yet the car was restored to look like a "Hertz GT 350 H Shelby". This car has the Shelby Front R Model lower Valance, the latter edition Shelby rear taillights, the famous Black with Gold paint scheme, and of course the Gold GT 350 H side decals. As a nice finishing touch the exterior paint has an amazing gold/flake clear coat applied that gives it a great sparkle. The Interior follows suit with the Shelby theme and paint colors and has the Shelby style racing seat belts and similar steering wheel as well as the Shelby dash mounted Tachometer and oil pressure gauges. The middle of the seats are custom made with Gold cloth in the center and matching door skins on the sides with the same fabric, it also has a latter style center council between the seats with the same gold color in the center to tie it all together. The center column also has a comfortable arm rest which is nice for long trips and has storage under it which come in handy. The interior also has a matching color Gold dash and Shelby inspired roll bar painted in gold. The Interior is in excellent condition and all of the gauges are working as well as the headlights, turn signals and wipers. The rebuilt 1969 Ford 302 motor has 10:1 TRW Pistons, and a High Performance 289 cam which has a great rumble to it and it still runs well on regular fuel. It has Two Holley 600 carbs on a Cross Ram Intake Manifold. It also has a Chrome Hi- Po oil and fuel pump, it also has a racing fuel cell for added safety. The car has a Mallory Hi-Po Electronic Ignition Distributor to help with the spark power and reliability. It also has HookerHeaders with side Exhaust pipes that sounds Very Mean!!
Between the looks and sound of the car most people don't even try to race you because they think they will loose. Even though it looks and sounds mean (if you drive it fast) you can be light on the gas and go past any police car without getting pulled over for the sound.
The car is Very reliable, predictable and easy to drive it has a Hurst shiftier-with a rebuilt 4 speed trans with a Hi-PO clutch set, even with 488 gears it still cruises at 60 mph under 3000 RPM's. The stock rear axle shafts were replace with Strange Engineering Steel shafts a few years ago. The Alston Sub-frame and narrowed Lincoln Versailles rear end with Disk Brakes help to nicely fit in the 18.5- inch Sportsman rear tires The car has Shelby style front disk brakes as well for improved stopping power. The stock suspension up front was also lowered two inches to both assist handling and enhance the aggressive stance of the car. There is quiet a bit of chrome parts on the engine and underside of the car as well to really make it shine and stand out from the crowd.
This Award Winning car has been the center of attention at every car show or cruise night it has been to. From the minute you pull up till you leave everyone seems to flock around the car. On the road I can honestly say this car is truly a blast to drive and is a sheer Beast.
It has Tons of low-end torque and you can most certainly scratch the tires in ever gear if you're so inclined. Since there was not enough space at the top of this form to elaborate on the condition of this vehicle I listed any of the most obvious issues of the body or paint. I also mentioned I will post a link so you can see more of the specifics of the exterior condition. I have also included several pictures here you can zoom in on to see most of the imperfections. I did notice that you can see a very small dent on the trunk lid if you look at it at just the right angle I will have a pic available at the link below or can send it to you but its barley noticeable. Other than that their may be some minor scratch you cannot easily see but i believe I pointed out the noticeable ones on my videos and photos. As for the interior everything's in great shape and works with the exception of the fuel gauge because there is a fuel cell in the vehicle and it dose not have a sending unit in it but holds about the same amount of fuel as the stock tank did. The interior light seems to be staying on so I installed a quick disconnect on the battery in the trunk for theft prevention and to keep the battery from draining down. The stock radio speakers been removed so that does not work and thee is no emergency brake currently installed. Other than that the Interior is in good working order. The headliner, carpet and seats are all in great condition with no major wear or stains on them. The horn has been removed but as they say Loud Pipes Save Life's people seem to stay well out of your way as your driving with this car, I think their afraid of it, smiles, they can defiantly hear you coming and see you going as you leave them in the Dust!!
As for the engine and drive train goes it run Very strong and we have not had any major mechanical issues with it the whole time we have had it. The only things that have had to be replaced on it was the water and fuel pump but I believe that was due to lack of use the seals likely dried out. I do notice on Very hot days if your in heavy stop and go traffic and Idling too long it begins to get hot, but it still has the original stock 4 blade radiator fan on it which is very inefficient and takes away horse power so I would recommend upgrading it. When I originally obtained the car the rear main seal leaked but we had it replaced a couple of years ago so there are no major leaks on the car. The engine and entire drive train has been well maintained and are Extremely clean as you can clearly see! The engine bay is also extremely clean and rust free as well as the rocker panels and the entire under body of the car. The rims and tires are in great shape and the front tires are only a couple of years old, the rear tires have some wear on the inside edges due to the sheer width of the tire but the car gets Excellent traction due to the chassis set up so you wont be roasting your tires anytime soon. All Fluids have been regularly changed and are fresh we have also installed new front brake calipers one was slightly sticking so we replaced them. That's about all I can think of at the moment regarding the mechanical's, and interior. The last point regarding the body or paint details I will try to make some notes here that correspond with the Photos but its impossible to explain every detail so if you click on the link of the video or other pics should show any of the details. If you need me to send any other pics or have any other questions please let me know. On the roof photos I am not sure if you can see a scratch on the roof closer to the passenger side if not I can send you another picture of that as well as the Very minor dent on the trunk lid closer to the rear window. The rest of the body damage consists mainly of paint issues or scratches the 1st one is of a crack on the front lower valance towards the bottom in the middle of the racing stripe area and can clearly be seen in the photos on the listing. The 2nd one may not be easily seen on the photos here I mentioned it earlier regarding a scratch on the roof closer to the passenger side if you cannot see it on the photos here it should be on the link here or I can send you one. The last scratches you need to be aware of are on the Rear bumper and the Passenger side front and rear corners of the light bezels.Their are a few minor scratches or chips I point out on the video when I go over the Body Details However I just noticed I forgot to video the small dent on the roof so hopefully the photos will be clear enough for you if not please let me know. Since I am running out of space here I will have to Explain any other details on line or over the phone if you have any further questions.
BTW in the Super Ford Magazine there was a pic of the car with Wheelie bars I still have them if you would like them their more for show then go but one of the brackets will need to be re-welded on the rear end for them to attach and they may need some cleaning because they have been off for a long time. I also have some new headlights I did not get to install before the Garage damage occurred. In addition I have a few other engine dress up hose covers and a new chrome outside mirror that I will be including as well as a Extra front brake caliper.
