Up for auction is a very original 1966 Mustang coupe (Non-GT) with the rareA code 289 4V engine.3 speed manual transmission. The drive line is original to the car and has all of the aluminum ID tags affixed. 94,200 original miles. The car has its original data plate on the driver's door showing it’s a genuine Black exterior and Red deluxe interior color combinations. You will often see many of these vintage vehicles with new reproduction data plates. The data plate manufacturers are able tocreate a new data plate with whatever colors and options an owner prefers. Often the old data plates get discarded once a new plate is made to hide evidence of the vehicles true factory options.Having an original data plate with all of these options is truly impressive and sought after. I’ve installed new upholstery, carpet and kick panels. In the process of removing the old carpet, I discovered a hand made document under the rear seat with much of the vehicles assembly data. It’s presumed to be something that was made and used by assembly line workers for instructions on what vehicle and options to build. See photo of the document. This will be included with the sale. Disc brakes have been added. Car has been repainted once on the outside (trunk, interior floor pans, door jambs and under hood all have original paint). Floor pans are mint and still have factory paint showing several factory details, includingcircles around the area where the rubber plugs were covered prior to paint. The brownish color you see around some of the floor plugs are remnant carpet insulation that stuck to the floor. It's not rust. See photos. Overall, the paint is show worthy but does have a few scratches, chips and dimple size dings. All glass is original, including date coded windshield. All sheet metal is original, and I don’t see any evidence that any of it has been replaced. Every panel has the proper date code that matches the time period the car was produced. Correct date coded spare wheel in the trunk. You will see some surface rust on the passenger side of the trunk floor, however the trunk is very solid. It runs and drives like a true sports car. This is one powerful machine!!! I encourage you to come see and drive this in person. If you would like to inspect it, please do so prior to bidding. It handles the road well and has zero issues mechanically. A/C was an original option on this car and looks like a new original unit cosmetically. However, it does not blow air for some reason. I’m not skilled enough to know how to service this and don’t want to make marks on such a nice piece by trying to play with it. Clock on the radio works but the radio is not playing. Everything else works as it should. Car has aclear CA title and sold as-is.
