1970 FORD GALAXIE XL FASTBACK EASY PROJECT CAR
Please read all before bidding. Please ask any questions you have before bidding. By bidding you agree with the simple terms listed at the bottom of this description. Thanks.
Will run and drive onto a trailer or transport, but needs a rebuilt short block, so selling as a project car.
This car was a daily driver that was parked only a few months ago. I purchased this car years ago from the original owner. Clear Texas title. I have moved on to another project.
Original owner's manual, dealer envelope and related Ford Warranty and Safety brochures are still in the glovebox, including its build sheet.
Gulfstream Aqua, white top, white interior. 351W-2V, AC, PS, PDB, Auto, AM/FM Stereo with fader.
Hideaway headlights, Clock, 140 MPH "Police Interceptor" Speedometer, "Police Interceptorâ€/Heavy Duty "high rate" front sway bar and springs.
This is a running driving car that just needs a rebuilt short block to be back on the road. Sounds like a single rod knock. It will drive onto a trailer or transport.
The engine heads were done around 15K miles ago, all new valves, hardened seats, all new hardened push rods and adjustable rockers. The heads are still in very good condition and built to stock specifications.
Super straight body for its age. Original paint is hiding nothing. Car has great patina. Paint or leave as is. Car needs interior restoration, seatcovers, headliner, dash pad, etc. to be nice. Door panels are decent. Headliner material is intact, the threading separated in one of the seams so I had taken it down to repair or replace. (Vendors still offer reproductions for around $150.00).
SUSPENSION
Replaced front and rear coil springs (Ford Police Interceptor/Heavy Duty spring rate factory specifications) and front bushings. The front Police Interceptor/Heavy Duty "high rate" sway bar is very rare, and is factory Ford. Suspension is tight and responsive. It cruises comfortably and handles the highway and turnpikes like an Interceptor/GT should. A perfect balance between sport and comfort.
ACCESSORIES
Rebuilt power steering gear box, rebuilt power steering pump, working alternator, replaced radiator with a three-core Heavy Duty, replaced the air conditioning system vacuum hoses and AC switch. All the AC box doors open and close as they should, vent, defrost, heat, max air, etc. and replaced the AC blower motor. AC compressor works, will take a charge and last around a week. I think it will need 134-A rated hoses to hold a charge. Original jack equipment and good spare tire in the trunk. Could barely hear radio when purchased but no sound at all now.
BODY
All original panels with original paint. Stunningly straight body. Dry Texas car all its life. Floorpans are stunning - you really can eat off them if you want. These are the originals as they came off the assembly line. Untouched - all I did was clean them. Some factory paint markings still show on the undercarriage. 99% rust free body. Only one small spot underneath the trunk rubber seal lip. (Trunk seal does not leak). Good chrome, very decent shape.
DRIVETRAIN
351 Windsor. Heads were completely rebuilt and still in good working order. Will need a rebuilt short block. The very rare two-piece heat shield is still intact. Used only on early production 1970 351-2V engines. It was discontinued after six months of production (on Feb. 1, 1970). (I have the factory flexible tube riser that was used as originally equipped in 1970). Transmission works great and is matching numbers, the V.I.N. is stamped on it. The rear differential is a 2.76:1 open highway gear. Cruising and handling at 70 mph on the highway is its sweet spot.
