Car description

This listing is for a 1964 Thunderbird Convertible. 390 4 barrel, Cruise-O-Matic. This car has the tannaeu option on it as well that is a throwback to the 2-seater baby birds. This is the first year for this new body (transitioning from the "bullet" bird to the "square bird") style, and this was one of my father's cars in his collection. Unfortunately, my father passed away and we have to sell some of the cars from the collection. My father purchased this car many years ago, and it had been completely restored back in the mid 1990's, (it still retains its original Motor-craft belts from the restoration and Bias-Ply whitewall tires!) but the previous owner stored it in a warehouse where items were knocked into it and it was basically neglected. My father purchased it and was going to complete the body work on it, however never got around to it as it was a great running/driving car and he drove and enjoyed it. That plus the fact he had 30-40 project cars going on at any given time. I don't know a ton about this car, however I know that my father drove it quite often to cruise nights such as the Golden Super-cruise in Golden CO (google it, its one of the largest and longest running cruise nights in the U.S.) up until he passed in late 2016. From 2016 until now it has been stored inside with my other cars. This car has sat since 2016, however I put 6 gallons of fresh gas in it and it fired right up. The car runs good, and runs better every-time I start it. The engine needs to be run more. I have driven the car only 2 miles, and it runs and shifts good. The more the car is driven, the better it drives. This is a car that needs to be used and enjoyed! Sitting in storage is the worst thing for these cars!!!
Now with that said, there are flaws. The tires are showing signs of age, and have developed cracks on the sidewalls. I have driven it on these tires, but I would not trust any long trips on them. There is a sizable dent in the passenger side door, and another on the right front fender, that both look to have been colored in and not fixed properly, and there is a small dent in the top of the rear quarter, just behind the passenger side door, that is from something at some point falling on it. All of the body damage appears to have occurred in storage, and not from any type of accident. The dents are too small and oddly shaped. There is also some very small bubbles in the pain on the passenger side rear quarter, behind the rear wheel. I have found scratches on the paint that may be able to be corrected with the proper techniques, and there are nicks here and there as well, and it is missing the mast for the radio antenna (the radio even works!) Overall this is a very good looking 5-10 ft car, but some of the flaws are visible when you get up close. With that said though, the pain shines very nice! There is NO RUST in the floors or trunk and it still retains what appears to be the factory undercoating, or newer undercoating from when it was restored. The exhaust is new, as well as a new gas tank. Other than the one bubbled area in the paint, I can not find ANY OTHER areas or signs of any rust in this car. This has been a dry Colorado car stored indoors for the last several decades.
Also included is a new power brake booster, I am not sure what is wrong with the current booster on the car as the car stops very well, however the new booster is included. There are also two new weatherstrip packages (I do not know what they go to though), as well as an original Ford electrical manual, a body/interior assembly manual, an original owners manual in the center console, an original looking spare battery tra, a rear-view mirror wrapped in plastic wrap that I have not opened, an extra original headlight switch assembly as well as a new transmission pan gasket. All this goes with the car.
The top cycles up and down properly, ALL the gauges and speedometer work properly (which is amazing in and of itself!), and 3 out of the 4 windows work. The driver's side rear window does not cycle up or down, and unfortunately is stuck most of the way down. I do hear a click at the window motor to show that the motor may be the problem as it is getting power.
I believe the color of the body and the interior colors were changed when this car was restored as the data plate breaks down to the original color being Rose Beige Metallic with Rose Beige interior. I do believe the drive-train to be original to the car as the intake and cylinder head date codes are both C4AE (1964). I have not looked for any other numbers.
I am sure there are things I am missing, so please ask questions if you have them. I can also take additional photos of areas upon request, but just know I have a full time job and it may take a few days to get additional photos.
If you know these cars, you know that my starting bid is nowhere near what this car is worth! This is a NO RESERVE auction and I have done my best to describe this car to the best of my knowledge, and unfortunately I did not write down the exact mileage but I know the odometer read 94,XXX miles. Good Luck!
I CAN HELP with setting up shipping. Shipping is at the expense of the buyer, but I work with and have used 2 shippers local to me. These guys have hauled several cars for me and I trust their care they give. They are not 20 truck fleets, but one-man operations that are licensed, insured, and ship classic cars all over the US. Sometimes they are backed up and shipping can take a while (30 days) so you are welcome to book through your own shipper and I will work with them to get the car loaded.I will store this car free of charge to the winning bidder for up to 30 days if needed for shipping purposes.
I have sold several cars here through eBay, and my feedback speaks for itself. Payment needs to be in the form of a bank check, cash in person, or bank wire. A non-refundable deposit of $500.00 is due within 24 hours of auction close, and the remainder of payment is due within 7 days of auction close. Car is sold as is/where is with no warranties either expressed or implied. I will accept PayPal for the deposit only, but the remainder needs to be paid in one of the aforementioned ways. Please ask and and all questions, and thanks!
