Car description |
---|
It has a remarkably solid, mostly rust free body. There is zero rust around the headlamp areas of the front fenders which is very nice to see on this era Ford/Mercury truck. The only rust appears to be the passengers side cab corner where there is some slight blistering and also the lower cowl between the door and fender. This is extremely minor though and other than this the cab is extremely solid. The bed sides also have some very minor rust ahead of the rear fenders on the seam where they typically rust. This is very easily repaired as it is just flat steel. The paint is original and has a very nice patina if that is what you are looking for. The floorboards are very impressive and remarkably solid. The door bottoms are also rust free. The fenders are in excellent shape. The running boards are in good shape with no rust. The all important and very hard to find Mercury tailgate was missing but we have sourced the correct 53-56 long bed tailgate as can be seen in the photos which will come with the truck. All emblems are present and in nice condition other than the 'C' on the hood which is sadly often missing on these 53-56 Mercury trucks. We will be able to source one for the buyer but this could take several months. All four very rare Mercury hub caps are present and in very good condition. There are minimal dents on this truck which is unusual to see on a farm truck. It has the typical dump bed (hoist) that many 3/4 ton and larger prairie farm trucks of this era were fitted with. This is why the bed sits higher than factory. The dump bed mechanism can be removed though and the bed re-mounted at its factory height. We have had a new windshield and a new rear window installed with new seals as they were both smashed. It does need door glass though as it is smashed on the drivers side and badly cracked on the passengers side. Overall this is a good solid and original example of a very rare 1953 Mercury M Series pickup truck.
The interior is complete, clean and ingood condition for its age with a nice instrument cluster. The seat will need re-upholstering.
This truck rolls and steers freely for ease of loading onto a trailer or moving into a shop. All tires hold air.
Due to the much smaller Canadian market, Ford of Canada only sold approximately one tenth as many trucks as Ford did in the US and around two thirds of those were Ford's leaving the remaining third to be Mercury's. So very few of these trucks were produced and it is becoming much harder for us to source nice original and complete examples such as this. Due to Canada's harsh climate only a handful remain today.
This will make a great project being that it is a very rare truck with very little rust to contend with and in untouched original condition. It deserves bringing back to life. Selling withNo Reserveto the highest bidder. Please be aware this vehicle likely requires a full restoration so no warranty is implied or given. We describe these vehicles as thoroughly as possible with detailed photographs as we are aware the majority of buyers are a long way away. You are more than welcome to view the truck, have it inspected and request as many photos as you like before the auction ends.
If you would like a shipping quote please message us and we will provide you with the contact information of our preferred shippers that are very familiar with loading and hauling the type of vehicles that we sell. You may find this very preferable over dealing with brokers and the nonsense that goes along with that.
If you are buyer outside of the US, then please read our section below, titled 'Shipping' so that you understand what your options are.

We are two brothers who seek out original trucks and cars from all across Canada, specializing in vehicles from the 40s, 50s and 60s.
Most American barn finds have long since been found and tampered with by multiple owners; North of the border there still seems to be an abundance of good, solid, original vehicles, waiting to be brought back to life.
We make thesevehicles available to the US market by taking care of importation and providing all paperwork required to obtain a ClearUS Title, in your name and home State.
We are passionate about finding the best there is and understand that our customers wantto see automobiles that have not been tampered with; The more original, the better.
Our inventory is regularly updated, as new finds are unearthed. If there is something specific that you are looking for, then let us know and we'd be happy to see if we can help.
The business we conduct is straightforward and honest. Whether you're looking for something that'sall original, a starting point for a restoration project or the bones for a custom build, Bison Brothers are here to help.
